How The Media Made Gary Glitter Appear And Disappear

HAVE you seen Gary Glitter?

Today the Mirror says Glitter is at large dressed in a blue bandana, dark goatee beard and “perv’s smirk”.

He’s no longer in the “garishly decorated” room where he “hid” for four days while we hunted for him. He has since decided to “flee”.

Where is Gary?

The Mirror’s Rebecca Evans says he could be 200 miles away from Hampshire, possibly in Paris, Manchester or Swansea.

While Gary Glitter waits, Peter Whilby writes in the Guardian of loveable Glitter’s rise to fame in the 1970s:

In 1973, for example, the Sun interviewed “the rock ‘n’ roll Daddy who makes little girls ask to see more of his hairy chest”, a wish the paper happily granted with a picture. The Sun added, innocently (well, if it wasn’t innocent, it’s a scandal): “Gary Glitter thinks a lot about kids.”

Jerry Sadowitz also makes mention of Gary Glitter. This is NSFW, but explains what you need to know about Gary Glitter and his making:
