Juice Drinker Canned In Dubai

by | 25th, September 2008

TO Dubai, where arrests are being made. A 28-year-old Russian female, in Dubai on a tourist visa, and a 30-year-old Lebanese man are taking in the stifling air of the great resort in the sea.

They are drinking a restorative, a juice.

Stop! You there! Stop! In accordance with the Federal Penal Code of the United Arab Emirates, a public intake of food and beverages during daytime hours of the month of Ramadan is forbidden by Article 313.

Don’t flash your knickers. That will only make matters worse. You’re busted. To the cells.

The article stipulates the punishment in the form of either a monetary penalty – up to 2,000 dirhems ($555) – or even a term of up to one month in prison.

But neither juice bandits are Muslims, so does the law apply to them? Are tourists encouraged to adhere to Islam when in Dubai? When in Rome do you goose women, let your mum dress you and feed Christians to lions?

The court listens. They make a ruling. Guilty.

The court rules that the nefarious juice drinkers must pay the fine of 1,000 dirhems ($278) each.

Which, interestingly, is the same price as a return ticket to Benidorm… Last one there’s a donkey-killing, bull-fighting, fish-stealing hamster…
