Something Of The Film Noir About Peter Mandelson

by | 5th, October 2008

“…In a situation like this, you’re going to need two heroes…”

I’m slightly deranged, yes – but I see similarities between the final scenes of stylish 1997 film L.A. Confidential and what is happening in UK politics right now.

A high-ranking policeman gets it in the back (his own fault of course); greed, corruption and (political) slaughter are rife – and now a spectacle, a circus, a media event must occur to distract the populace from the grisly and crooked events that led up to it.

Enter stage nu-left Peter Mandelson. Behind him, David Blunkett.

Our very own Bud White and Edmund Exley. Except we didn’t need two anti-heroes…
