Christine Daniels Is The LA Times’s Sally Jockstrap

THE good news for any columnists looking to keep their job but start afresh is that sports hack Mike Penner is now bylined as sports hackette Christine Daniels:

Eighteen month after writing a column about becoming Christine Daniels, veteran sportswriter Mike Penner has quietly returned to work at the Los Angeles Times, according to multiple sources close to the LAT’s Sports staff.

What about those LA United socceroos, guys? Is Christine blonde. she is, right..?

Penner’s column in April 2007 about his sexual transformation became one of the most-viewed Times’ stories of the year and was followed by a story in the LAT from media writer James Rainey and tons of other media attention. Daniels for a time chronicled her transformation in a blog at LATimes.com; the blog entries have been removed and the Times has so far posted nothing about Penner’s return.

A woman writing about sport in the mainstream press. Is she blonde. She has to be blonde. She’s blonde, right? Yeah, we know it’s not the BBC. But still, she’s blodne, yeah?

I emailed him and Sports Editor Randy Harvey, who replied, “We’re looking forward to Mike’s byline appearing in the paper and on the website with increased frequency. He continues to be a valued member of our sports staff.”

Sally Jockstrap writes for the LA Times. In this week’s column, Christine cheers on true Brit Andrew Henman and wonders which basketball player is best at changing light bulbs…
