Warming Our Hands On Chris Martin And Paltrow’s Buccolic London Mansion

GLOBAL warming news now as Anorak’s reporter warms his hands on the side of Coldplay singer Chris Martin’s home and reads his copy of The Age, in which a reader asks:

WHAT is the difference between an arsonist and a person who refuses to limit greenhouse gas emissions?

Anyone? What about you, Chris Martin, all round good green egg?

An audit of properties, measuring heat loss, has revealed that Chris Martin, the pop star, Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, and Sir David Attenborough, the broadcaster, are among those who reside in homes that are “leaking” energy. Some lack even the most basic energy saving measures such as cavity wall insulation and double glazing.

You can use egg boxes to insulate walls from heat loos, and – get this – prevent sound pollution.

Thermal images of the residences of 10 high-profile green campaigners found that their heat loss was either worse or no better than that found in the average family home.

Let us not be too hard on Mr Martin. He might not have been at home during the testing, instead, say, on a jet overhead or in a chilly hotel room in the UAE, where the band are playing soon.

Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, and his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, the actress, have both championed green issues. Paltrow backed the American “Act Green” energy conservation campaign, while Martin tried to offset CO2 emissions produced by his band’s second album by planting a forest of mango trees in India.

Does India need a forest of mango trees?

Belsize Park, as its name suggests, is a bucolic setting of lush meadows. Could it have benefited from a mango orchard? Mango’s need heat and light to grow, so if the trees were planted close to the Martin house, everyone – mango and man – would be happy. Perhaps Mr Martin could have imported an Indian to tend to the trees, for added authenticity?

Now, is an arsonist the same as a Coldplay singer?

Discuss?
