Natasha Richardson Talk And Deteriorate

by | 18th, March 2009

WE interrupt this transmission of CCN (the web’s rolling Celebrity Cancer News channel – Jade Goody special tonite) to bring news of Natasha Richardson, the actress, who has been diagnosed by a doctor on the telly as suffering from “talk and deteriorate“, possibly.

Dr Steven Flanagan, director of Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University, tells FoxNews.com.

I can only speculate, but… what this implies is that someone hits their head and they are seemingly OK initially. Then they get a rapid collection of blood – usually called epidural haemorrhage – and that means bleeding between the skull and the brain.”

The Guardian rubs its chin:

The 45-year-old actor, the wife of Liam Neeson, reportedly suffered serious head injuries, possibly life-threatening, after a fall on a beginners’ slope.

The Morung Express adds: “Natasha may be brain dead

The Examiner trumps that:

Natasha Richardson confirmed brain-dead, will be taken off life support

Associated Content’s in-house medic puts the evidence together and tells us:

“Natasha Richardson Ski Accident Leads to Speculation”

Sky News wonder if this could be the start of an epidemic:

“The brain is a delicate computer that is protected by the skull,” Peter McCabe, chief executive of Headway, the brain injury association, explained.

“It has the consistency of a blancmange so if there is some violent movement of the skull then it will have an impact on the brain.

“Someone might be involved in an accident and, if they’re lucky, there’s no damage. At other times – as, it seems, in the case of Natasha Richardson – the injury can be catastrophic.

“If there is no external evidence of damage, it may be that, even so, the brain is swelling and there is nowhere for it to go. That can lead to more damage within the tissue of the brain which can cause subsequent problems.”

What can we learn, doctor, who also talks to the Mail?

Finally, Mr McCabe urged anyone going skiing or doing other ‘active’ sports to always wear a helmet.

And not just helmets:

Just one day after Natasha Richardson suffered a fall that has reportedly left her brain dead, actress Jesse Lange has taken a nasty fall that has left her … with broken collar bone and injured shoulder.

Says the Sun:

GWYNETH PALTROW and mum BLYTHE DANNER were moved by the news.

Moved to tears…
