Shaheen Jafargholi On The Unexpected Susan Boyle

shaheen-jafargholiSHAHEEN Jafargholi, of Dylan Thomas School in Swansea, is appearing as an Oompa Loompa in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

Says Shaheen’s mum Karen Thomas

When he was 18-months-old, he liked singing Will Smith’s Wild Wild West in particular. And he was really into the band Steps when he was five or six and wanted to go to all the concerts.”

A one-a-two-a-one-two…

When I roll into the (Wild Wild West)
When I stroll into the (Wild Wild West)
When I bounce into the (Wild Wild West) Sisqo, Sisqo

Sing along if you know the worlds… Says mum:

“He’s always been good at catching onto a song.”

We going straight to the Wild Wild West
We going straight to the Wild Wild West

At age five, Shaheen began attending stage school on Saturday mornings. Stage school is the new brownies, with badges on offer for preciousness, pushiness and being gifted. Showing off id the, er, new going dib-dib-dob.

And so Shaheen tried out for his Britain’s Got Talent badge, by first singing his rendition of Amy Winehouse’s Valerie.

Again, sing along…

He then, when Simon Cowell told Shaheen to sing soemthign else, he sang Michael Jackson Who’s Loving You?

ooooooooooooo oooooooo hoooooooooooooooo aaaaaaaaa wonder whos lovin’
yooooooooooooooooou come on baby yer yer oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ouw ouw ouw yer yer o yer

Says Shaheen:

“It was scary. But Simon gave me another chance, which was really cool. I’m not sure why he did. I think maybe it was the fact that I sang Valerie well and maybe he thought I could just sing something else better. I’m just glad he didn’t stop me altogether. Then, when I got all those brilliant comments, it was amazing.”

Yeah, amazing. Simon Cowell, headmaster of the National Stage School – motto: Average in Excellence – gave the boy who’d been on tour six-week touring production of Thriller Live, playing a young Michael Jackson, and on the telly as a child actor another chance.

Says Shaheen on Susan Boyle, who stands like a foul-mouthed ambulatory hair ball between him and success:

“I thought what she did was really good and it was so unexpected.”

Patronising, lui?

Says mum:

“I don’t think you can compare the two: she’s grown up and he’s a kid.”

Says Shaheen:

“I’d just like to be a recording artist and have world recognition, really.”

Not bad for an Oompa-Loompa, says the Mail. Not bad for Violet Beauregarde, says we.
