The Placenta Teddy Bear Is The Christmas Gift That’s Part Of You

placenta-teddyWHY not forgo eating your baby’s placenta and instead turn it into a curio, a coffee table piece, and object d’art – like a teddy.

At the Doing it for the Kids exhibition – an “exhibition of sustainable play design” for “designers who don’t want to make landfill” – designer Alex Green has created the Placenta Teddy Bear.

Green’s ‘Twin Teddy Kit’ “celebrates the unity of the infant, the mother and the placenta”.

Here’s how you make the perfect Christmas gift:

The placenta must be cut in two and rubbed with salt. Then dry it and smear with an emulsifying blend of tannin and egg yolk. No – he-he – not your eggs. A hen’s egg will do, mum. The placenta will now be soft and pliable. A few bends and some stitches with umbilical cord and the teddy is complete. You might like to use a couple of turds your squeezed out during birth for eyes and buttons.

Then leave at the end of junior’s bed and tell him that it’s made of his leftovers.

Available in brown.
