BRITTANY Murphy has passed away. The talented actress died age 32. The coroner reports that Murphy died of “natural causes”. End of story. A sad end. Right. Right? It’s only just beginning. The media gets to work on speculating:

So here’s the Times:

Brittany Murphy ‘was on prescription drugs’

What drugs, Junior Dispirin? Brittany Murphy died of natural causes. Drugs are irrelevant.

Brittany Murphy, the Hollywood actress who died on Sunday had been taking prescription drugs for flu-like symptoms and was extremely ill in the hours before she suffered a heart attack according to the online celebrity gossip site TMZ.

She was ill before she died. How’s that for a shocker? What are the facts?

But, despite not revealing any further details of what might have caused the star’s untimely demise, the Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter insists her death appears to be from natural causes. He tells Access Hollywood, “It appears to be natural at this time. We do understand she had a bit of medical history.”

It is believed the actress suffered from diabetes. Coroner Captain John Kades adds, “Foul play is not suspected at this time because there were no outward signs of trauma or other injuries.”

The Mirror’s “film critic” David Edwards looks back at the career of a talented, successful actress:

“So what went so terribly wrong? Was it the bad relationships, the discordant childhood years? The bumpy adolescence. We’ll never know.”

Only, we do know, David Edwards. She died of natural causes. He heart stopped beating. And that’s “troubled” Brittnay Murphy, as the Sun bills her on its front page. And tells us:

Movie star Brittany Murphy was killed by prescription drugs just like Michael Jackson, pals feared last night.”

But the coroner says “natural causes”. What evidence of drugs? None. There is an an unnamed source telling of Murphy being “hooked on painkillers”, “cocaine use” and a “drug problem”.

Still, hard times for the parents. Here’s what the Telegraph has to say about Brittany’s grieving dad, Angelo Bertolotti:

Mr Bertolotti, who served time in jail on federal drug charges, added: “She was just talented. And I loved her very much.”

The Mail quotes celebrity blogger gone native Perez Hilton:

Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton hinted on his website there might have been some other cause behind Brittany’s sudden death today. He wrote: ‘Absolutely devastating. Especially because this comes as no surprise! We, and those who knew Brittany personally, saw this coming.’

Other headlines celebrating the star, go:

Brittany Murphy’s Death at age 32 may be Due to Drugs

Or may not be…

Brittany Murphy: What killed Brittany…..drugs, diabetes or……?

…the French?

But if you really want to put a tin lid on the the media’s approach to the death of a star, here it is:

The neighbour who witnessed a paramedic’s failed attempt to resuscitate Brittany Murphy is the ex-girlfriend of Paul McKenna. Clare Staples, who was engaged to the hypnotist during their five-year relationship, described how Murphy had a yellow complexion and ‘looked dead’ as she lay unconscious on a stretcher.

How’s that for a legacy?
