Court Hears Madeleine McCann ‘Died In Holiday Apartment’

by | 12th, January 2010

LAWYER Jose Magalhaes e Menezes tells the court in the Goncalo Amaral libel trial of a report signed by Tavares De Almeida that said Madeleine McCann had ‘died’ in the family’s apartment.

Tavares De Almeida was the police chief inspector at the time Madeleine vanished.

Mr Amaral makes the same suggestion in his book that the McCanns would like banned. They are seeking libel damages. Mr Amaral says a ban infringes on his freedom of speech. A trial ensues.

And Sky News screams:

Madeleine McCann ‘Died In Holiday Apartment’

But there is no proof. There is no evidence. There is no suspect. There is just chatter, a report and headlines in “inverted commas”. Although not here here aren’t.

Mr Menezes was the first witness called at a libel trial brought by the McCanns against former police chief Goncalo Amaral. His book claimed Madeleine had died in the family’s apartment in the holiday resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007.

But Mr Menezes said he thought the probability of Madeleine being alive was 50/50…

So the headline and the police report can’t be right. You want more facts?

Giving evidence, Mr de Almeida said that the dogs identified blood and the smell of a human body inside the dining room of the holiday flat and in the car the McCanns were using.

Only there was no proof.

After three years of looking for Our Maddie, we are still reading speculation and watching the parents…
