Jon Venables’ Play Pen Nicked From Screws

FIRST there was the beasting of James Bulger’s joint child killer Jon Venables.

Now comes the desperate search for illustration of a weak yarn.

The Sun today screams of “pampering” and “luxury” as hard done to prison officers are told to give up a staff-room to the recalled from life-licence murderer of two-year-old James Bulger.

There is horror as The Sun says the man (now in jail under the new name given to him as a life-long anonymity order) had a 36″ screen television and proceeds to shows us an (alleged) flat screen telly.

(Ever willing to join in the madness, Anorak today gives you a tv similar to the tv illustrated by The Sun.)

Keeping the story simmering on the back burner is a fine tabloid art but once again the sources are quoted and the implication is that 27-year-old Venables continues to irritate.

In fact, Deep Throat goes as far as to say:

“It’s infuriating he’s being given this level of luxury at the expense of prison staff.”

Venables is said to be in a high security prison somewhere in the UK after being pulled back in for an as yet unspecified breach of his licence.

Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Jack Straw had to stand up in Parliament yesterday and deny double child killer Ian Huntley would be compensated in any way for the throat slashing incident which meant he was giving hospital treatment last weekend.

Even The Personal Injury Bureau (slogan Compensation is your legal right) reports it straight with:

There has been a mixture of public incredulity and anger to the news that child murderer Ian Huntley may be entitled to up to £20,000 compensation for his injury at the hands of a fellow inmate.

‘According to newspaper reports the 36 year old murderer needed hospital treatment after he was allegedly attacked by Damien Fowkes, 34 at HMP Frankland, in Co Durham, on Sunday.

‘Huntley’s throat was allegedly slashed.

‘Because Huntley was attacked in jail, it is thought he could be eligible to sue the Ministry of Justice because they failed in their duty of care to protect him.

‘However British Justice Secretary Jack Straw, speaking in the Houses of Parliament yesterday was quick to pour water on the claims that double murderer Huntley, the perpetrator of one of the most heinous and high profile murders in recent UK criminal history could receive such a large amount from the public purse.

‘ “There has been a suggestion, by apparently this prisoner’s lawyer, that he will seek compensation,” Mr Straw said in Parliament yesterday.

‘ “I can say to this House as an absolute fact that would be robustly, vigorously resisted by this Government; and we have absolutely no intention of making such compensation payments.” ‘

Would that be similar to the solemn announcement: “We will end Bankers’ Bonus?
