Kyron Horman: Pictures, Step-Mother, Facebook And Timeline

by | 18th, June 2010

KYRON Horman is missing. Kyron Horman went missing in Oregon two weeks ago, on June 4, 2010. Kyron Horman is 7. His step-mother Terri Moulton Horman last saw him walking down the school hallway toward his classroom at Skyline School.

This is every parents nightmare,” says a voice on Mom’s Logic. It always is.

Another voice says she knows what happened to Kyron Horman. Her child is outside the school grounds.

We told our daughter about Kyron Horman, the boy who’s been missing almost two weeks from his Portland elementary school science fair. We told her how he went missing from school, too — and how you can NEVER leave school grounds unattended. If you get lost at school or separated from your class, we told her, just go to the principal’s office and they will help you.

This was a major wakeup call. We’d always thought our school was safe — and that our daughter would never leave school grounds.

Stranger Danger! Although:

[Terri] Horman has been the source of public speculation since early in the investigation…

Skeptics latched on to the fact Horman wrote on her Facebook page she was “hitting the gym.” To some, that seemed out of character for a parent with a missing child.

Odd?

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office officials explained at a news conference that they’d told the family to continue their normal routine and try to stay healthy.

The police give more advice – and a vow:

Captain Jason Gates of the Multnomah County sheriff’s office said Saturday that police received a 9-1-1 call at 3:45 Friday afternoon…

Gates asked all neighbors to thoroughly search their properties, including outbuildings, a “no stone left unturned” search.

No stone unturned. It’s the Madeleine McCann mantra.

The timeline of a missing child:

8 a.m. Kyron Horman arrives for the school science fair and talent show. He is with Terri Moulton Horman.

8:15 a.m. Gina Zimmerman, president of the school PTA, sees Kyron and Terri

8:45 a.m. Kyron walks to his class. Terri leaves.

Kyron’s homeroom teacher, Kristina Porter, notices he is not there.

1:21 p.m. Terri Horman publishes photos of Kyron at the science fair on her Facebook page.

3:30 p.m. Terri Horman goes to meet the school bus and take Kyron home.

3:46 p.m. Skyline School secretary Susan Hall calls police.

5:30 p.m. Message goes out over alerts system top parent’s phones in the area:

Kyron Horman did not arrive at home today.”

And so begins the grim familiarity of the missing child: Flyers are printed and handed out. A Kyron Horman Fund is created at Chase Bank. A vigil is held.

FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele says the Hormons are “not speaking to the media because they do not believe it’s in the best interest of finding Kyron.”

It’s all about looking for Kyron. No need to look at the parents and the family. No need to stare. No need to ask them how they feel. Just look for the missing child.

Multnomah County sheriff’s Capt. Mike Shults reads a statement from Kyron Horman’s immediate family:

“Kyron’s family would like to thank people for support and interest in finding their son. The outpouring of support and continued effort strengthens their hope. We need for folks to continue to assist us in our goal… It is obviously a difficult time and they want to speak to the public so you can hear it from Kyron’s family as they come together to share their message. Their objective is to keep the focus on Kyron and not about anything else.”

What chance that? None.

The case has shifted from a search and rescue effort to a criminal case however authorities have not said why.

A search moves to Sauvie Island.

WW has learned that federal, county and city law-enforcement officials say the reason for the search of Sauvie Island is that cell-phone records reveal Kyron’s step-mother, Terri Moulton Horman, may have been on the island the day he disappeared.

And on it goes…
