Kay, 30, who appeared at Reading Crown Court, admitted pinning Peter Sutcliffe to the floor of the 47-year-old's room on Henley ward in Broadmoor after asking to borrow an envelope. He then stabbed Sutcliffe about 10 times in the eyes with a Parker pen, blinding him in one eye and severely damaging the other one. 22/12/02: Peter Sutcliffe has come in 4th in a top 10 list of arrests by British police which was unveiled. Police had been on a routine patrol in Sheffield when they spotted Sutcliffe and Olivia Reivers and ran a number plate check. They discovered Sutcliffe was using false Skoda plates on his Rover and took him in for questioning, informing the Ripper squad as a matter of course. After days of piecing together Sutcliffe s movements, detectives realised they had finally found their man. Sutcliffe stood trial at the Old Bailey on May 5, 1981, accused of 13 murders and seven attempted murders. His conviction led police to establish the Holmes database, which enables police to readily share information between forces. The Top 10 list, released to coincide with the 110th birthday of Police Review, was compiled by Jan Berry, chairman of the Police Federation, Rick Naylor, vice president of the Superintendents Association, and Police Review staff.
