MARY Bale is the woman filmed dumping a cat into wheelie bin, with all the litter. Bales lives in Coventry and works as a cashier at RBS in Rugby. You might have to queue to meet her.

The Mail says Bale was once a member of the Birmingham Bach Choir. Which might be interesting were there a tape of her singing Rossini’s Duetto Buffo Di Due Gatti. Spinster Bale and Lola should duet and release a charity record The CatLady & The Cat; or, failing that, get Susan Boyle and Pebbles.

As for the story, well, the Sun says it found her. It didn’t. The cat’s owners Daryl and Stephanie Mann found her. (Or Stephanie Andrews-Mann, as the Mirror calls her.)

Mary Bale lives 0.1 miles from the Manns. It wasn’t that hard to track Bale down.

The Sun, as with all news organs (including ours) got news of where Bale lives via the Press Association. The paper then altered its front-page, demoting its original full front-page news that Shirlena Johnson had been chucked off the X Factor to tells readers:

“IT’S A FUR COP – We find woman who dumped cat in bin”

To the news:

MOGGIE mauler Mary Bale yesterday admitted dumping a family’s pet puss in a wheelie bin – but insisted: “I don’t know what the fuss is about, it’s just a cat.”

The leading lights of the Facebook group Mary Bale – You Legend agree. Anyhow, what news of the “moggie mauler”, the woman who “sends a chill down the spine” of Stephanie Mann?

Concern grew as her details were posted online and a Facebook group demanded “Death to Mary Bale”. One post urged: “This woman should be murdered.

Hey it’s a cat. Mrs Bales should be murdered nine times, right?

Stephanie Mann adds:

“I can’t believe the reaction to the story. I only posted it on Facebook because I wanted to see who she was. Now that the police know who she is, I think people should leave it to them and the RSPCA and not take matters into their own hands. Whatever she has done, I don’t like her, but I don’t want her to get hurt. It needs to be dealt with properly, not by people getting aggressive with her.”

What else do we know of Bale, the woman who is aged 45 in the Sun, 44 in the Mirror.

“I really don’t see what everyone is getting so excited about – it’s just a cat. I was walking home from work and saw this cat wander out in front of me.
“I was playing with it, stroking it and listening to it purr as it stood on a garden wall. It was very friendly.

“I don’t know what came over me, but I suddenly thought it would be funny to put it in the wheelie bin, which was right beside me.

I did it as a joke because I thought it would be funny. I never thought it would be trapped. I expected it to wriggle out of the bin.”

Or as Celia, Mary’s mum, tells the Mirror:

She can’t explain her actions at all.

Such are the facts…
