Derrick Bird Buried In Australia?

by | 19th, September 2010

DERRICK Bird has been buried on the Fire King, the wreck of a “137-year-old steamer”. The People says four members of the Solway Sub-Aqua Club, where the man who murdered 12 people was a member, buried his ashes in an urn.

They made the 100ft dive off the Isle of Man in July.

The Isle of Man? By some coincidence, another Fire King also went down 137 years ago:

Fire King; Coaster; 221 tons; 45.1×6.3×2.4 m.; Owned by Clarence & Richmond River Steam Navigation Co.; Built in 1866. Registered at Sydney. Registration no. 21/1866.

On 30 April 1873, Fire King (W. O. Herse) was on voyage from Sydney to Manning River with a cargo of general and ~11 passengers and a crew of ~8, when she was lost off North Beach, Manning River.

ref. used: Australian National Shipwrecks Database,www.environment.go..

There is the wreck of another Fire King off the coast of the Isle of Man, but that boat was built in 1925.

Such are the facts…
