Ex Paratrooper Dies In Blender

PAUL Palmer died when he climbed into an industrial blender at the Building Chemical Research (BCR) plant in Bury, Greater Manchester. As he worked inside, the blender was switched on by another employee.

Mr Palmer was killed by the mixing blade.

It should have been impossible to turn the machine on with a man inside, but two safety switches failed.

The firm was fined £20,000 in a prosecution brought forward by the Health and Safety Executive. Mr Palmer has been a paratrooper for 13 years. He had seen service in Kuwait and Afghanistan. He survived that.

It is a truly horrific death. And utterly avoidable…
