Assia Shahzad: Was She Murdered By Her Son Or Her Religion?

by | 11th, October 2010

ASSIA Shahzad was 40 when she was stabbed at her home in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. She died at Stoke Mandeville Hospital . Her son Usman, 21, has been arrested (pictured). So too has a 16-year-old. Mrs Shazad had three sons, aged 21, 18 and 16. And the Sun wants you to know that she was a Muslim.

Why did she die? Well, over the newswires we learn that her husband Rashad, 45, “moved out earlier this year after claims she had been seeing other men“.

Detective Chief Inspector Vince Grey, from Thames Valley police, says:

“Our investigation is still in its early stages. However, we believe this was not a random attack and that both the suspects and victims are known to one another.”

A postmortem was being carried out last night, and results are expected later today.

Grey adds:

“I have been made aware that there are rumours circulating that this was a so-called ‘honour killing’. I would like to categorically state that we do not believe this to be the case but that we are dealing with a domestic dispute. For legal reasons, I cannot say any more about the motives for the murder at this point.”

But the media can guess. Get his in the Sun:

Family pal Jahid Khan, former chairman of Assia’s mosque, said: “It is unthinkable two boys could kill their own mother when the Muslim faith says children should not even say a word of contempt towards their parents.”

So. The Muslim faith is AGAINST children murdering their parents? Who knew? Thankfully an expert is on hand to put Muslim mums and dads fears to rest. There is nothing to suggest the victim’s religion was behind the murder but the Islamophobic press cannot resist giving readers the sideways eyes.

The Star sees an Asian name and wonders:

A WEALTHY mum has been butchered in a frenzied knife attack and suspected honour killing.

Rumoured” becomes “suspected“. Because when a Muslim is killed it must be about religion, right?

The facts are few and dramtic. But the Express senses more. How much is the house wher she was stabbed worth?

According to neighbours, Mrs Shahzad had recently moved to the £750,000 house with two of her three sons. She lived there with Lukman, who is 18 and has extreme learning difficulties, and the 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

So. She never moved in with her husband, the one PA says “moved out”? And as for even the most minor fact, says the Sun:

Devoted Assia Shahzad, 40, was found in a pool of blood at her £600,000 mock-palace following a frantic 999 call.

Wonder what it’s worth now?
