Saucy Postcards Banned By Royal Mail: Prince Andrew And Fergie Are Acceptable

SAUCY seaside postcards are not suitable for Her Majesty’s Royal Mail. That’s the official ruling that bars Leeds postcard company Bamforth from having its cartoons featured on customised stamps, known as Smilers.

Seven of the 10 images suggested by the firm have been banned.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman explains:

“Smilers allow customers to personalise their post by combining one of their own photos with a Royal Mail stamp. There are a number of restrictions on images which can be used on Smilers stamps, including images which may be deemed offensive or depict full or partial nudity.”

Can’t anything be deemed to cause offence to someone?

In 1986, Prince Andrew and his then his Sarah Ferguson featured on the 12p and 17p stamps. It was a decision that can be linked to rise in the use of email. It ultimately cost the Royal Mail billions…
