Europe Wins As Manchester United Laugh Off Shalke: Photos

MANCHESTER United march on in the Champions’ League. Their opponents Schalke are left with memories. The German club’s fans get a match day programme that features observations on the English.

The notes says Schalke supporters will identify visiting fans from Manchester because they are all called Paul and carry a set of darts in their shirt pockets.

We learn:

“The English are going nuts this week about the wedding – no, not Katie Price this time but Prince William. England is the motherland of football of course. But they have still not learned about penalties.

“In Wayne Rooney we have the eternal favourite son-in-law for English mothers and that evergreen youngster Edwin van der Sar, who takes goalkeeping tips from Jens Lehmann. And then there is Malcolm Glazer, who for Manchester United fans is the equivalent of Lord Voldemort…

“The typical Manc man is called Paul. He has darts in his right pocket and in his left pocket has a picture of a bulldog. The girls are called Samantha. And can you believe they put vinegar on their chips?”

How well those Germans know their English cousins.

The Man United programme notes on Shalke should feature one word: Who? Ok, three words: Who? Where? Why?

Anorak, of course, is a European organ, and we will support any team from the EU zone that wins the Champions’ League.

Come on United! Come on Barcelona! Come on Real Madrid. Do it for Europe! We are proud to support our local teams…
