Christian Nurse Sues NHS For Making Her Wear Ungodly Trousers: Are Women’s Strides Men’s Clothing?

HANNAH Adewole is suing Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust for religious discrimination and harassment in the matter of her trousers. She says that she is banned from wearing scrub dresses in theatre and has been told to wear trousers for reasons of hygiene. She has refused to comply.

Adewole, a midwife at Queen’s Hospital in Romford, Essex, says this is unfair because Muslim midwives were allowed to wear hijabs and tops.

At an employment tribunal, Mrs Adewole, 45, opines:

“A Muslim midwife would not have been treated in such a disrespectful manner.”

She adds:

“Reading the Bible has always given me strength. I believe that the Bible is truth and that its words should be followed wholeheartedly.”

It follows that dresses are “a mandatory requirement in order to adhere to the scriptures”.

For at it states in Deuteronomy 22:5:

“A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does.”

Navy types, rugby club members and Hilary Clinton…God hates you. Trousers are God’s gift to mankind. So too are mankinis (not bikinis), Y-fronts (but not thongs), sock braces, vests (white cotton only and tucked into Y-fronts), regimental next ties, brogues (black not brown) and pith helmets.

Says the plaintiff:

“I know that in many hospitals skirts and dresses are worn and this would not be so if there was any real risk of infection. They would not listen and seemed angry at me. I was traumatised by the intolerance towards my religious needs.”

The tribunal considers the options and rejects her claims. It says the rules are not a disadvantage Christians and are “legitimate and proportionate for infection control”.

Anorak leaves you this this modern puzzler: are trousers made for women and their hips and buttocks men’s clothing?
