Former Army Lt. Dan Choi, an openly gay Iraq war veteran who protested the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy by handcuffing himself to a White House fence, speaks to the media with his lawyer, Robert Feldman, after the start of his trial in Washington. Choi is charged with failing to obey a police officer’s order to leave the grounds. He and 12 others chained themselves to the White House fence in November 2010 during a protest.

Don Morse, a director of the Portland-area cannabis club Human Collective, says the threat of law enforcement using membership fees to shut down clubs threatens his club’s existence. Morse says the club charges $1 per day for members, and uses the money for expenses unrelated to marijuana, like paying the light bill and making lease payments.
