Madeleine McCann: Trolling For Jokes With Jack Tims

by | 23rd, September 2011

MADELEINE McCann: The Sun’s target A Troll campaign to name and shame anonymous web commentators focuses once more on Jack Tims.

Tims created a Facebook page “mocking the disappearance of Madeleine McCann”.

The 17-year-old’s page was called:

“If I Get 1 million Likes I’ll Let Maddie Go.”

You should not smirk nor laugh. It’s not a parody on the Government’s ploy in which every petition attracting 100,000 signatures online might be debated in the Commons, nor is it a lampooning of the kind of newspaper campaigns that monster social workers. It’s just trolling. In tabloid land, anything said on the internet is instantly twice as vile as anything said in, say, a newspaper or a comedy club.

Says Tim or Kent:

“I was chatting to a friend about jokes comedians come out with and created the page. When it got in The Sun it hit home how much I distressed people.” He then whinged: “I received threats and this could cost me friends. I only hope the McCanns can forgive me.”

Fingers crossed.
