Coach Andrey Nazarov Attacks Ice Hockey Fans WIth Big Stick

by | 9th, November 2011

TO Belarus, where Andrey Nazarov, coach of Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) side Vityaz, is laying into the fans with a big stick during his team’s away game at Dynamo Minsk.

Trouble flared in the game’s final minute, when the Moscow Region team went a goal down. They resorted to the tried and tested tactic of fighting with the Dynamo players. Fans reacted to the gamesmanship. They tossed hard objects, like coins and lighters, at the Vityaz bench and onto the ice.

This was Nazarov’s cue to grab a stick and try to hit spectators about the face and body. Had it not been for the protective glass barrier he’d have taken everyone out (or been beaten to a bloody pulp by the fans? – ed).

On Monday, the league banned Nazarov for two games.

And the fans love it. Says Anroak’s in-house cold sports watcher:

“What puck? You mean there’s a puck? No-one told me. I thought it was just ice dancing with fisticuffs?”
