Fat police get night-vison googles to crack vegetable crimes

FOLLOWING a state of thefts from allotments in Stratton St Margaret, Swindon, Wilts, police have been given night-vision goggles. The glasses turn the place green (plus ca change.).

Parish council clerk Paul Russell tells the Mirror:

“We’ve had theft and vandalism. Many of our holders grow big vegetables to show. Some have worked for seven months on their produce. We thought about fences but that costs £20,000.”

PC Frank Key says:

“So we got a pair of £350 night-vision goggles instead. With these, darkness is now no longer the criminal’s friend.”

A recent report noted that in Metropolitan Police,  52 per cent of male officers are overweight, a fifth are obese, and one in 100 are morbidly obese. If this is typical of all forces, might it better for the Blobbies on the beat to eat the vegetables, especially carrots, which are good for night-vison work?
