Man shot woman after mistaking her mowhawk for a bird

by | 28th, March 2012

DERRILL Rockwell shot the woman because he thought her mohawk haircut was a bird.

It was 5am on October 5, 2011, when Rockwell claims he saw the ‘bird’. He picked up his .22-calibre rifle and left this home near Orchard Mesa Cemetery.

The ‘bird’ was sat on a hill. It was about 90 feeet away. Rockwell took aim and fired.

He heard moaning. He approached the figure, which turned out to be a 23-year-old woman. She saw her large red mohawk. He saw the a gunshot wound to the head.

To court, then, where Rockwell, 49, is sentenced five years probation after pleading guilty to felony possession of a weapon by a prior offender.  He is ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution.

It’s a cautionary tale about life in the Western World. Things are much simpler in North Korea, where thanks to TV shows like Let’s Trim Our Hair in Accordance with the Socialist Lifestyle, one haircut fits all. Furthermore, the only bird in North Korea is the weeping magpie, its two-tone head looking not much like anything a human would wear outside Sunderland…
