Madeleine McCann: In Brazil with a boy named Maddie

MADELEINE McCann: On Sunday the Sunday Express bellowed from its front page: “MADDIE: THE LOST CLUES.”

It’s a “WORLD EXCLUSIVE”.

James Murray writes:

CRUCIAL leads that could solve the mystery of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are revealed today by the Sunday Express.

Great. But what about those front-page “clues”?

These vital clues were never followed up by the Portuguese police, according to Isabel Duarte, the Lisbon lawyer acting for Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.

Vital clues. Fact. The Express is speculating.

Shortly after Madeleine was taken from Apartment 5A at the Ocean Club at Praia da Luz, five years ago this Thursday, a sniffer dog picked up her scent at a nearby car park.

Sniffer dogs…but they can be unreliable.

Mrs Duarte is quoted:

“This was a significant moment at a critical time, yet there is very little about it in the police files. There doesn’t appear to have been any forensic work at the spot in the car park identified by the dog. More work should have been done.”

She adds:

“Another very important lead was the sighting by a schoolgirl of a man looking at Apartment 5A. That man has not been traced, despite a good description from the girl. It is very frustrating coming across these leads and then knowing the position of the Portuguese police.”

Indeed. All leads should be followed up. What else does the Express have?

The Sunday Express can reveal that a British woman staying at the Ocean Club saw a “suspicious” couple loitering around the complex. On May 2, the day before Madeleine vanished, the woman saw the couple sitting on a hill overlooking tennis courts used by Kate and Gerry.

Did they look suspicious in hindsight or at the time? We are on the grassy knoll…

Just by the courts is a grassy area where the couple, Madeleine and twins Sean and Amelie, played regularly in the afternoons. The woman, whose toddler daughter became friendly with Madeleine at the children’s club, said the suspicious woman was talking and pointing while the man with her looked “nervous”.

The following day at 1.30pm she saw the same couple standing near her apartment at the holiday complex and later told the McCanns’ private investigators that she thought their behaviour was “suspicious”. It is not believed that the couple have been traced or identified.

So. This not new news. The private investigators known about it. Did they find anything?

Desperate for actual news – something that moves this hunt for a missing child forward – we read on:

In a fresh blow to the McCanns, Mrs Duarte will tomorrow hand back almost 8,000 confiscated copies of a book by Goncalo Amaral, the Portuguese police chief sacked for criticising British police five months after the crime.

Amaral has hunches and ideas but no facts.

Mr Amaral alleges in his book that Madeleine died in Apartment 5A, a claim clearly rejected by Scotland Yard Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who said last week that Madeleine could still be alive.

Amaral is the ex-copper with a theory. In September he will face the McCanns in a Portuguese court. Gerry and Kate McCann claim Amaral has defamed them. They are seeking damages. Says Ms Duarte:

“Every one of the books sold will increase the amount of damages that we will be seeking from him.”

Daily Record: “Facebook approve page mocking Madeleine McCann’s disappearance”

A SHOCKING Facebook page joking about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been dismissed as “humour about a public figure” by the social network giants. An internet troll created the disgusting site titled “If this gets one millions likes, I will let Maddie out of my basement.”

Too soon for jokes?

Rutland & Stamford Mercury: “McCanns mark Madeleine anniversary”

Kate and Gerry McCann will mark the fifth anniversary of their daughter Madeleine’s disappearance this week amid renewed hopes that she will be found.

Clarence Mitchell:

…Clarence Mitchell has been promoted to lead Burson-Marsteller’s Public Affairs practice following Hutchinson’s departure. Mitchell, who has served as official spokesman for the parents of Madeleine McCann, has been working at B-M as an MD since joining from Lewis PR last year…Mitchell had been working with the agency’s corporate and public affairs clients since joining from Lewis in September 2011. An ex-BBC journalist, he was formerly a consultant at Freud Communications and also served as director of the UK Government’s media monitoring unit.

B-M UK CEO Matt Carter said: ‘With his strong background in politics, government and the media, Clarence has already impressed both clients and colleagues alike, and he will make a great practice leader. Our PA team has had a fantastic start to 2012 and Clarence has the skills to take this to the next level.’

The Sun: “Inside the twisted  minds of the Madeleine McCann child snatchers”

MADELEINE McCann was targeted from the moment she arrived at the resort where she was snatched — but her abductor was NOT a paedophile, a former top British cop believes.

Our Maddie is a hobby for old cops.

She was almost certainly taken by a childless couple, respected kidnap investigator Ian Horrocks decided after reviewing the case.

Fact.

Here he presents his shocking conclusions on the case that baffled Portuguese police have closed.

The British copper will crack it:

COP says Maddie could be in Brazil if abducted by a Portuguese-speaker.

HE warns she may be tanned, have hair dyed and talk a new language.

– IF her hair is cut shorter, she could even be dressed and disguised as a boy.

Take that you stupid , Portuguese.

The Sun: “I’ve helped find 160,000 missing children, we must not give up hope  of finding Maddie says ERNIE ALLEN President of National Centre for  Missing and Exploited Children”

Says he:

“Miracles happen. It doesn’t matter how long a child has been missing. Until Madeleine is found, or we know for certain what has happened to her, we will not give up.”

Sure. Are we getting closer to knowing?

Mr Allen firmly believes Maddie could be alive and well.

Such are the facts…
