When Fearne Cotton met Paloma Faith the BBC got the Diana and Fergie we don’t miss

WAS Fearne Cotton’s chat with pixie-voied Paloma Faith the nadir of the BBC’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations?

There were lots of complaints about the segment hereunder. And in reaction, Cotton opined:

“Grown men who slag me off in articles/online are huge bullies. I love my job and wouldn’t be doing it if I wasn’t any good at it. People who sit lazily and judge others will never grow. They’ll never take a look at themselves or feel content.”

That’s therapy therapy twaddle of the blonde Cotton, star of ITV2, a channel that aims for dross and falls short. Still, Fearne is pretty – she has a great telegenic nose – and the protean presenter able to slip into anything without you much noticing. Short of giving her a recording contract and sex tape, having Cotton talk about the Royal Family’s sick bag is a logical next step.

Paloma, meanwhile, sounds like every extra who ever appeared in an Ealing comedy. Only, she not joking.

But the overriding sensation is that we are watching not Fearne and Paloma, but Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson. This is exactly what that pair would have been up to had they not married into the Munsters, chatting about stuff to buy and blessed with all the vapid weltschmerz of Peaches Geldof’s blusher…
