Man set alight by cigarette fire escapes into path of speeding train

TO Kamloops, British Columbia, where a 51-year-old man is recovering in hospital. He has been badly burnt. There is a deep gash on his head. He is lucky to be alive.

The man had been taking a break in a field. He’d been drinking. He’d lay down in the long grsss for a smoke. The grass had caught fire. The fire had spread to his clothes. In fear of his life, the man had taken up his bicycle and raced off. It was then that a locomotive belonging to the Canadian Pacific Railway stuck him.

Police are investigating whether the bike was stolen. Which is touching…
