Paula Broadwell makes CIA Director David Petraeus question his rules

by | 10th, November 2012

PAULA Broadwell (married) had an affair with CIA Director David Petraeus (married):

CIA Director David Petraeus resigned Friday after admitting to an extramarital affair—an affair with his biographer that was revealed over the course of an FBI investigation, Fox News has learned. The FBI had been investigating an unrelated and much broader case before stumbling on the affair. Fox News has learned that during the course of this investigation, the name of biographer Paula Broadwell came up …

The name of her book? It’s called All In.The Education of General David Petraeus.

Make the jokes, as you must.

He says:

“After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours,” the retired four-star general said. “This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation.”

One interesting point:

Petraeus was expected to testify at a congressional hearing about the terrorist attack at the US consultate in Benghazi that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens. He will no longer do so.”

Why not? Among his rules for life are:

We all will make mistakes. The key is to recognize them and admit them, to learn from them, and to take off the rear view mirrors—drive on and avoid making them again.

And:

Sometimes the best move is the bold move.

Although the golden rule is -as it always must be – RUN LIKE HELL.

The Wall Street Journal explains why this is a big deal:

The computer-security investigation-which raised questions about a potential compromise to national security-points to one reason Mr. Petraeus and the White House decided he couldn’t remain in the senior intelligence position. An extramarital affair has significant implications for an official in a highly sensitive post, because it can open an official to blackmail. Security officials are sensitive to misuse of personal email accounts-not only official accounts-because there have been multiple instances of foreign hackers targeting personal emails.

NBC News says the FBI is investigating Broadwell “for improperly trying to access his email and possibly gaining access to classified information.”

Sex and power. This story will run…
