Arsenal ‘fine sheet’ leaks online: Mertesacker plays the German banker

by | 23rd, January 2013

ARSENAL aren’t known as the strictest, toughest of football clubs, which may or may not be underlined by the leaking of a sheet of fines and penalties from the club.

Gary O’Driscoll – he’s one of the club’s doctors – apparently took a photo of the sheet. However, after he used a file-sharing website (naughty), the photo ended up being leaked and shared around online.

So what counts as naughty behaviour at Arsenal Football Club?

Obviously, there’s fines for being late for training, late for team travel and meetings, and there are financial penalties for bringing the wrong kit on match days and taking phone calls while in the building (although texting is allowed).

Weirdly, the fines are rather small (a hundred quid is nothing to someone who is on thousands of pounds per week) and there’s no indication of where they go once they’re collected (you’d like to think it was turned into a charitable donation wouldn’t you?).

One thing we do know is that the bailiff for Arsenal is defender Per Mertesacker.

Responding to a question about Mertesacker’s role, manager Arsene Wenger joked: “The Germans do well economically and we respect that. They are the only ones that make money in Europe. That’s why we’ve chosen a German.”

Lovely stereotyping there.
