Mary Kay Beckham sues match.com for introducing her to a women killer

by | 28th, January 2013

MARY Kay Beckman, 50, of Las Vegas, is suing dating site Match.com for leading her toward Wade Ridley, 53.

The couple dated for ten days before Ms Beckham ened it. Four months later, Ridley stabbed her ten times and kicked her in the head. Ms Beckham required surgery to her skull. Her sight and hearing were saved.

Ridley is now dead. He killed himself in prison. Before dying he admitted to the murder of  Anne Simenson, an Arizona woman he met on Match.com.

Ms Beckman wants Match.com to give her $10 million (£6.3 million) for its allegedly negligent, deceptive trade, failure to warn and infliction of emotional distress. She alleges that Match.com offered no warning of her meeting “an individual whose intentions are not to find a mate, but to find victims to kill or rape”.

Well, no. That would be the promise on a more specialised dating site. Should every marriage come with a contract stipulating that the opuse might beat you, cheat on your, murder you and rape you, and that breach of the marriage vows will result in your bring able to sue God?

Match.com has replied:

“The many millions of people who have found love on Match.com and other online dating sites know how fulfilling it is. And while that doesn’t make what happened in this case any less awful, this is about a sick, twisted individual with no prior criminal record, not an entire community of men and women looking to meet each other.”

Well, yes…
