Beitar Jerusalem get the bigoted fans they deserve

by | 8th, February 2013

THIS is pathetic. People have torched the club house of Israeli Premier League side Beitar Jerusalem. Why? Police say it’s because the club signed Zaur Sadayev and Gabriel Kadiev, two Chechen Muslim players.

Would fans do it? Seems odd, given that a load of the club’s memorabilia was damaged in the blaze. But, then, Beitar fans have been known to sing anti-Muslim chants and recently produced a banner protesting the Chechens’ presence in the team.

For that bigotry, the club was fined £9,000 and ordered to close the 7,000-seater eastern stand at the Teddy Kollek Stadium.

Players of Arabic descent represent every Israeli Premier League and the Israeli national squad, but not for Beitar.

Looks like the club get the fans they deserve.
