Bob Geldof to be blasted off into space

by | 11th, September 2013

Bob Geldof speaks at the One Young World summit, at Old Billingsgate Market in central London.

NEVER, in the history of humankind, has someone from Ireland been sent into space… unless you count the people who think they’ve been there after losing their sight and minds drinking poitín cut with antifreeze.

However, that’s all about to change as Bob Geldof is all set to become the first Irishman to travel into space when he spends $100,000 on a ticket for the inaugural Space Expedition Corporation (Sxc) commercial flight next year.

Of course, you could hope that they leave him there or you might say that $100,000 would’ve been very useful for one of his charitable causes and created god knows how many wells for the needy, but that would be obvious wouldn’t it?

Obvious and correct.

Either way, the Boomtown Rat will join other celebrity passengers including model Doutzen Kroes on the flight which will travel 62 miles into space from a launch pad on the Caribbean island of Curacao.

Geldof says:

“Being the first Irishman in space is not only a fantastic honour but pretty mind-blowing. The first rock astronaut space rat! Elvis may have left the building but Bob Geldof will have left the planet! Wild! Who would have thought it possible in my lifetime.”

He then went on to be completely insufferable elsewhere.
