Arsenal v West Brom: Baggies only turn up to make Jack Wilshere shine

by | 6th, October 2013

LOCAL news watch: West Bromwich Albion drew 1-1 with Arsenal. What did the clubs’ local papers say?

Islington Gazette (Arsenal):

Anelka had cause to regret those misses when the Gunners snatched a 63rd-minute equaliser, with substitute Tomas Rosicky laying off Olivier Giroud’s cross for Wilshere to crack a half-volley that skimmed off the shin of Jonas Olsson and into the bottom corner.

London Evening Standard:

Jack Wilshere’s effort found the back of the net after a big deflection off Jonas Olsson

Birmingham Mail:

Wilshere, a nuisance throughout, equalised when his shot took a wild deflection against Jonas Olsson to beat the flat-footed Boaz Myhill.

Express & Star (West Brom)

Claudio Yacob’s first Albion goal earned his side a well-deserved point against Premier League pace-setters Arsenal at the Hawthorns.

Albion were made to pay for their wastefulness on 63 minutes when Wilshere struck. He collected a lay-off from substitute Tomas Rosicky and hit a 20-yard shot that deflected off Jonas Olsson’s shin and beat the wrong-footed Boaz Myhill.

For Baggies fans, the national press lead with Jack Wilshere. It’s almost as if the Baggies were there to make him look good.

The Sun: “JACK WILSHERE had the last laugh as Arsenal came away from the Hawthorns with a share of the spoils.”

The Mirror: “Jack Wilshere rescues point as Gunners return to the top of the Premier League”

Daily Mail: “West Brom 1 Arsenal 1: Smoking Wilshere strike rescues point and sends Gunners to the summit”

Why deflect attention from WBA, who should have won?
