Holistic Watch: Facebook Takes An ‘Holistic’ Approach To Beheading A Mexican Woman

HOLISTIC Watch: Anorak’s look at the dread word in marketing balls.

Today Facebook reviewed its decision to allow beheading videos on  its site. It’s removed a video of a Mexican woman being decapitated. Says Facebook:

“When we review content that is reported to us, we will take a more holistic look at the context surrounding a violent image or video. Second, we will consider whether the person posting the content is sharing it responsibly, such as accompanying the video or image with a warning and sharing it with an age-appropriate audience.”

Always good to take the holistic approach when broadcasting a video of a woman having her head lopped off by a nutcase.

The irony is clear. The Oxford English Dictionary defines holistic as:

adjective
chiefly Philosophy
characterized by the belief that the parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole.

Medicine characterized by the treatment of the whole person, taking into account mental and social factors, rather than just the symptoms of a disease.

Facebook is off its face…
