“MEC (Member of the Executive Council) Candith Mashego-Dlamini was discouraging the elderly when she heard about them rubbing their knees with condoms. She called on those who were practising to stop as condoms are meant for something other than rubbing knees,” says her spokesman Ronnie Masilela.

“We want an immediate stop on OAPs using condoms for ‘Rubbing Knees’. We have noted with concern here in the province that our senior citizens who are using condoms to rub their knees to ease arthritis. The condoms themselves are not meant to rub knees or any other thing, such as shoes. They are for the sexually active. This undermines our effort to fight the spread of HIV and AIDS. So we are calling for an immediate stop on the use of condoms for rubbing knees. There is ‘no scientific proof’ that the condom’s lubricant can help arthritis sufferers. ”
