WAYNE Rooney is to sing a new contract to play for Manchester United. The Red Devils have touched his heart to such a degree that he will play for them so long as they up his wage packet to £300,000 a week. What say the papers:

Metro: “Wayne Rooney to sign record-breaking £70m deal that will keep him at Manchester United for life”

Would United want a 43-year-old Rooney, or even one in his 60s?

Of course not. As the Telegraph notes, Rooney is not a lifer:

Rooney will agree to play for United until 2019, when he will be approaching his 34th birthday.

Or as the Times writes:

Wayne Rooney to stay at Manchester United until 2018 in £70.2 million deal

Some confusion, there.  But he might not last that long. The Guardian reports: “England’s Roy Hodgson: Wayne Rooney must ‘explode’ at World Cup”.
