Liverpool Balls: Spurs Official Twitter Feed Mocks The Reds For ‘Biggest Capitulation Since Newcastle’

by | 6th, May 2014

IN the (chokes back vomit) football family, all clubs roots for one another. Before every boardroom meeting, men in suits line up to shake hands with other men in suits as the official Football Family  anthem lulls everyone into a state of blissful apathy.

So much for FIFA’s visions.

In the real world, the clubs, like the fans who run them (Manchester City and Manchester United excluded, obv.), are delighted when a rival fails. And so it is for Spurs, whose official twitter feed laughed out loud when Liverpool tossed away a three goal lead at Crystal Palace.

Beyond the gilded walls at FIFA’s offices, Football is all about entertainment and passion. And seeing the Reds turn a routine 3-0 win into a disaster was fantastically entertaining.

The Spurs tweet runs:

“Brutal but very funny. The biggest capitulation since Newcastle in the 90s”

All good stuff. And then Spurs did the regrettable. They apologised.

“We are currently looking into a security issue where our official Vine account has been compromised. We apologise to anyone offended by a recent tweet, which was immediately deleted. This post was not tweeted by anyone affiliated to THFC.”

No, of course not. Because in this anodyne corporate age, a Spurs fans pointing and laughing at Liverpool’s blunder would be unthinkable. Tsk! It’s not about football. It’s about corporate relations, attracting foreign billionaires and the brand.

Get with the programme, people.
