In Pictures: Eminem Plays T In The Park, Edinburgh

EMINEM was not 50 minutes late for his T In The Park show because he declined to walk across the mud from his tour bus. He was late because he couldn’t find hovercraft, a helicopter or a small child to carry him.

T In The Park organiser Geoff Ellis explains:

“It wasn’t [Eminem’s] doing – there was a piece of equipment that wasn’t ready. He was ready to come on, and so were his band, but unfortunately the stage manager said that we had to keep waiting five minutes, then five more minutes. Luckily though, we didn’t have to cut any of the set.”

Oxegen Music Festival In Pictures: Beth Ditto’s Eyebrows Won’t Run For Jay-Z

IN Pictures: The Oxegen Music festival at Punchestown race course in Co Kildare, Ireland. It rained. And rained. Dizzee Rascal sang. Beth Ditto’s eyebrows didn’t run – a Sharpie never does? Lorraine Martin from Swords jumped in and scored a mud beard, Fatboy Slim looked like someone’s dad with his album collection. Jay-Z’s marketing company made it rain. And Ezra Koenig of the Vampire Weekend was mistaken for Joe Jonas, albeit without the purity ring…

T In The Park In Photos: Eminem, Jay-Z And Paloma Faith’s Whipped Hair

T IN The Park In Photos: Another festival and with a chance for Paloma Faith to showcase her whipped hair. Faith arrived in Balado, Kinross-shire, Scotland, with her body dressed as a conga eel. She’d be Britain’s Lady GaGa is she stopped smiling and looking like she was enjoying herself and the whole thing wasn’t a marketing exercise. Aslo there, Faithless, Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, the Big Pink, Muse, Eminem, Kasabian, Paolo Nutini, Jay-Z, Prodigy, The Proclaimers, Black Eyed Peas and Madness…

In Pictures: Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite And Other Foamy Genitals

KYLIE Minogue launched of her album Aphrodite, at Amante Beach Club in Ibiza, Spain. Ah, Aphrodite, goddess of love and sexuality who rose from the foamy seas after Cronus cut off Uranus’ genitals and tossed them into the brine. Something to think about while we admire Kylie and read the cover notes…

Bob Dylan, Van Morrison And Blondie Rock Hop Farm Festival: Pictures

BOB Dylan and Van Morrison rocked the Hop Farm Festival in Paddock Wood, Kent. Ray Davies, without his Kinks, arrived and Debbie Harry, too. If you remember that lot in their pomp, you most likely spent the weekend watching the tennis, writing letters to the Daily Mail or wondering what happened to proper music. It was at Hop Farm…

DEBBIE Harry of Blondie and Dr John were the big acts at the Hop Farm Festival, Paddock Wood, Kent. Before Madonna and Lady GaGa, there was Debbie Harry, siren of teenaged bedroom walls. Also on the bill of what looks like a real ale festival: Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Ray Davies, Mumford & Sons, Peter Doherty, Laura Marling and The Magic Numbers, and Seasick Steve…

Silver Clef Awards In Pictures: Muse, Smoking Pipes And JLS

A GEISHA-faced Sharon Osbourne hosted the Silver Clef awards ceremony which aims to raise money for the Nordoff Robbins charity, helping the sick and disabled with music therapy.

The top awards went to Muse, who turned it down last year. This time they accepted; and bassist Chris Wolstenholme smoked a pipe outside the Park Lane Hilton. There are not enough pipes at large. Old Mr Anorak’s pal Iowahawk has one but too few others. A trend may be born.

The winners:

James Blunt’s Concert At 42000 Feet: Pictures And Sick Bags

JAMES Blunt rose into the air in a plane to sing at 42,000 ft and beat the world record for the highest gig ever. He might also beat the record for the number of air passengers being sick into an acoustic guitar. Both records are currently held by passengers aboard the flight where the captain played Lionel Richie’s Hello over the PA system.

Does some music make you feel queasy in the car or on the plane? Here’s Blunt, crooning in the skies above…Norwich.Pictures:

Muse Play Glastonbury With U2’s The Edge: Pictures

GLASTONBURY in pictures: Muse rocked the Pyramid stage. Matt Bellamy was joined on stage by The Edge of U2. The show’s other highlight was another old act appearing – the Blockbuster’s gold run. Not since Bob Holness was asked for a “P, please” have we seen the hexagons light up…

Kylie Minogue Joins The Orchestrated Lesbians At Glastonbury: Pictures

KYLIE Minogue is kissing Scissor Sisters stager Ana Matronic at Glastonbury. It’s on stage, readers. We like our lesbians to be fake and an orchestrated spectacle. We like lesbians to be seen and not heard. Kylie adds her name and face to the gallery of lipstick lesbians giving the boys in the media gallery what they want –  and all they can handle…

Hard Rock Calling: Stevie Wonder’s Keytar, Pearl Jam And Sarah Harding Does The Gents – In Pictures

THE Hard Rock Calling concert In Pictures – introduced by Sarah Harding walking into the Gents toilet. Harding’s big mistake. It was. Really. Pearl Jam And The Hives Play The Hard Rock Calling Festival: Pictures

FOR those of you who wanted to go to an open air concert but didn’t fancy schlepping to Glastonbury and living like a refugee, waking up in the night to hear braying ninnies banging on about drugs and ‘the experience’, there was Pearl Jam at the Hard Rock Calling Festival in London’s Hyde Park, London. Great show. Look out for the Hives doing the nautical look and The Chiefs modelling this year’s merkins – on their faces…

Glastonbury Day 2 In Pictures: Emma Watson, Muse, The Dead Weather And Back Stage

GLASTONBURY in Pictures: Day 2. Here’s Alison Mosshart of The Dead Weather smoking a cigarette on stage and Seasick Steve supping a beer. Nice work if you can get it. Jackson Browne went one stage further and looked comatose. Scissor Sisters looked like an 1980s tribute act to soemthing that might have been good. And Muse rocked.

Zandra Rhodes added to the impression that Glastonbury is the product of an exploded in a clown factory by dressing accordingly. Emma Watson, the celebrity face of the show, wanders about with George Craig of One Night Only. Kelly Osbourne and boyfriend Luke Worrall did whatever the do. Jameela Jamil looked leggy. And Pixie Geldof looked like the games teacher your boarding school warned you about.

And the sun beat down…

Glastonbury In Pictures: Gorrilaz Clash With The Nautical Theme

GLASTONBURY in pictures: Mick Jones, Damon Albarn and Paul Simonon of The Clash continued to work that yachty theme as they joined Gorrilaz on the Pyramid Stage. Damon Albarn is the first person to headline the festival two years running, because U2 pulled out when Bono was struck down by an act of God. Snoop Dogg joined Gorrilaz on stage for their final track, Clint Eastwood, and De La Soul popped up with some lilting rap. This was nostalgia, animation, video, music, pop, mash-up and a show – Gorrilaz are for the internet generation…

Glastonbury In Pictures: Snoop Dogg’s Pigtails Do The Dizzee Rascal

GLASTONBURY welcomed Snoop Dogg onto the Pyramid Stage on the festival’s first day. Snoop wore pigtail and a huge knuckler duster with his name on it. What with the shorter-term memory stuff, this is advisable. Also playing on Day 1 were Dizzee Rascal – now a shouter for Ing-er-land – and La Roux, Danny’s little girl all grown up…

Revealed: Russian Who Paid GaGa Million Dollars To Appear In Ace Of Base Tribute Video

LADY GaGa’s new song Alejandro sounds much like an Ace of Base old song – the one that Aswad did and they sped up a bit. The video features a Russian billioanaire who paid $1million to feature in it.

Lady GaGa’s Alejandro Is Not Ace Of Base’s Don’t Turn Around

So keen was this Russian to be in the video that he hasn’t told anyone his name. Of course, he may be cranking up the PR before he explodes onto the media. Or else he will go on to appear in lots of video, a mystery music figure who does nothing for the art but just looks the part. The man called dubbed ‘Arkady’ is Wham!’s Andrew Ridgely, The Happy Monday’s Bez and anyone from Milli Vanilli to Bony M’s Bobby Farrell.

Lady GaGa’s Alejandro Is Not Ace Of Base’s Don’t Turn Around

MORE on Lady GaGa’s Madonna-Ace of Base hybrid record Alejandro. Lady GaGa is Madonna’s Camel, a popstar formed by committee. The song is Ace of Base’s Don’t Turn Around, itself a copy of Aswad’s orignial, although they didn’t write it.

Alejandro is a pretty good match to Don’t Turn Around, albeit with a dash of La Isla Bonita.

In Pictures: Joan Jett Plays The 100 Club (No Kirsten Stewart On Vuvuzela)

JOAN Jett, of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts – not Kirsten Stewart’s mum (really?) – was performing on stage at The 100 Club in central London. We Love Rock ‘n’ Roll. Play it all the time on the juke box, baby. Yeah, we sang along. And we could hear ourselves sing. No vuvuzelas, you see. Although if Joan wants to be rock ‘n’ roll, current and upset the establishment she should get The Blackhearts on the big World Cup kazoos and blow…

Pink Lands On The Isle Of White Festival: In Pictures

PINK was performing on the Main Stage, at the Isle of Wight Festival, at Seaclose Park in Newport. She started her set by performing above the stage. On the Isle of White locals still point at planes. They noticed Pink. Some wanted to shoot her down. They were afeard. Others got down and prayed. Pink then landed and demanded to be heard by screaming through a gramophone amplifier. The masses swooned. Pink did as Klingon fertility dance:

RockNess In Pictures: Ian Brown Shows Blondie The Real Face Of Music

DEBBIE Harry made it from the Isle of White to Inverness in time to sing a few Blondie hits at RockNess. She looked good. Too good. And when we saw Ian Brown looking like you’d expect someone to look who said that when the Stone Roses split they fell into two camps: “We had two buses – the coke bus and the weed bus.” Although he did also say: “Because of my cheekbones people think I’m a crackhead.” (He’s not.) So. Brown looks authentic, the northern Keith Richards. And Blondie looks a Surrey divorcee on Blondie karaoke night. Still. Good sing-along fun. Pictures:
