Oil Be Back

by | 17th, May 2005

‘SO oily is George Galloway MP, the man often called the Right Honourable Member for Baghdad Central, that it’s a wonder the Americans haven’t invaded him.

Spot the difference

But don’t let it go unsaid that the MP who won an unexpected victory as an anti-war Respect candidate at the last election has evaded the attentions of the Bush administration.

Indeed, so impressed are the Americans with Galloway’s slippery, slug-like appearance that they’ve today invited him to appear on Capitol Hill and respond to allegations that he profited from Saddam Hussein’s brutal regime.

The Times says that last week the 13 members on the US Senate’s permanent subcommittee on investigations claimed to have unearthed “significant evidence” that Saddam’s regime awarded Galloway millions of barrels of oil.

A look at the unlovely Galloway suggests that if he did get the oil, he used it to bath in.

But Galloway’s not one to quit a fight, and he’s hoping to slip and slide out of this tight spot by turning the tables on his accusers.

As he tells the Times: “I am going to accuse them of being involved in a huge diversion from the real issues in Iraq, which are the theft of billions of dollars worth of Iraq’s wealth by the United States of America and its corporations, and the deaths of more than 100,000 people in Iraq, the destruction of the country, the opening of the doors to Islamic extremism of the al-Qaeda variety, tremendous crimes they have committed in Iraq.”

And as soon as Galloway’s finished spouting, the Senators will ask him if the accusation is true.

And Galloway will drip oil on his tongue and tell the likes of Norm Coleman: “Sir, I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability…”’
