Shy And Retiring: Tony Blair Goes To Sedgefield

by | 9th, May 2007

blair-520.png“TONY Blair will finally bring the curtain down on his decade in power tomorrow – by announcing his retirement in his constituency of Sedgefield.” (Pic: Beau Bo D’Or.) So says the Mirror. And rarely have we ever read anything more likely to be true.

As the website of Sedgefield Borough Council states: “Sedgefield Borough is situated in the South of County Durham in the North East of England and is generally thought of as an attractive place to live and work.”

Ah, Sedgefield. Which celebrity Prime Minister with a mansion by London’s Hyde Park and a humble wife by his side would not want to retire to this alright place?

The Victorian edifice of Winterton – at one time the UK’s biggest mental hospital – has also been destroyed to make way for executive housing.

But there is more to Sedgefield than little boxes.

It is believed Tony will reside at Trimdon Colliery, in his four-bedroom detached Victorian house, Myrobella.

Meals out will no longer be state occasions with captains of industry and world leaders but dinners of mild chilli of crab and lemon bruschetta at The Dun Cow Inn. This is the true taste of Blair’s County Durham.

Then to a game of tennis at the Sedgefield Community College, where tennis players are in ready supply, when they’re not being questioned by Her Majesty’s constabulary.

It all promises to be a genteel retirement for Tony. God speed…
