DAILY EXPRESS front page: “MADELEINE – McCANN FRIENDS FACE NEW PROBE. Portuguese police chief wants holiday couples interrogated”
Investigators “believe” members of the so-dubbed Tapas Nine “may” have helped the McCanns dispose of Madeleine’s body. They “could” be named as official suspects”

Says he: “We have an idea of what happened…In every interview there is a key moment, a click that clarifies everything and help you to reach the end”
“Kate and the ‘lost 5 minutes’” – A source says: “During the 40 minutes in which Kate left the Ocean Club restaurant and alerted the authorities about Madeleine, many things could have happened”. The possibilities, as we have read for some weeks, are endless
DAILY MIRROR page 11: “TOP MADDY COP: WE’LL CRACK IT”
Says Alipio Ribeiro: “Many similar cases have lasted longer and were resolved in the end” – Such as?
“Gerry ‘to go back’” – To Portugal? No, to work. Maybe one day

Lord Stevens is brought into the media for questioning

THE SUN page 11: “HOW COULD POLICE DROP ASH ON CLUES? Maddie parents’ fury at evidence contamination
Kate and Gerry McCann are “horrified” that cigarette ash “could” have contaminated evidence. Says a close friend of the couple: “It is outrageous to think that messy cops could have ruined vital evidence about Maddie’s abductor”
But did they?
Suzanne McGee, a holidaymaker, says: “I saw one lady forensic person remove her mask and light a cigarette. It just looked all wrong”
Like you, we are at loss for works over this story
DAILY TELEGRAPH page 7: “McCanns’ friends to be re-interviewed by police”
Says Mr Ribeiro: What is clear is that we have the calmness to separate the story, the fantasy, from what is the police side of things”
THE TIMES page 11: “Police speak to McCann friends”
Says Mr Ribeiro: “There is a scenario that has gained strength and has a greater degree of certainty”
Gerry McCann is a “consultant cardiologist”. Kate McCann is a “part-time GP”

The waiter remarked on them drinking 8-10 bottles of wine. But also the men had beer and the women cocktail’s how many of them did they have between them?- Isn’t that a lot of booze. Supposedly K and G got there first( why doesn’t that surprise me?) at 8pm. So in 2 hrs 9 people drank that much. And a friend said that was a ‘moderate’ amount No wonder none of them can keep their stories straight they were to p****d to remember.

TEAM MCCANN STRIKES OUT AGAIN
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/maddie/article375983.ece
“KATE McCann has made NO decision about her future career, says a family spokesman. It was reported yesterday that the part-time GP had told friends she planned to leave her former profession for a career in child welfare.”
So who got it wrong, then? The reporter? The friends? First, it is said Kate told friends she will quit. Then “a family spokesman” (family member?– why unnamed?) says this is not true.
“But spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate has not been approached or been in touch with any particular children’s charity.””
Oh, I get it! The previously unnamed “a family spokesman” is Clarence! Why not say so in the first place? Of course, up to this point they are making it ambiguous — “a family spokesman” says Kate has made no decision and THE Team McCann spokesman Clarence Mitchell merely says that nothing is definite yet with an establlished charity. Pretty stupid statement, since it was suggested that Kate would SET UP a charity, not work for an existing charity.
“Neither had Kate, 39, decided if she would return to her former profession, he added. ”
Oh, so he IS the “a family spokesman” after all?
“The mother of three has told before how she could not contemplate working again while four-year-old Maddie is still missing.”
Oh, but she did not mean that. That was just a grief-stricken impulsive statement.
“But husband Gerry, a £75,000-a-year cardiologist at Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital, IS considering a return to work before Christmas.”
Merry Christmas to the Catholic McCanns!
“He is on unpaid leave, but has been talking to bosses about going back. Mr Mitchell said: “Whether it’s full time or starting gradually, it’s all under consideration.” No one at the hospital was available for comment. ”
Has Gerry been talking to the hospital bosses, or has his Team McCann spokesman been talking to them? Gerry has such a big mouth, but these days when he opens it we only hear the voice of Clarence.
“The McCanns, of Rothley, Leics, have been living off a fighting fund set up to help them and their search for Maddie. ”
Good thing lots of people donated money to help them “search for Madeleine” — otherwise, Gerry might have had to get back to work far sooner. Luckily he has had plenty of time to “fight”.
You can see from this short article the conscious manipulation in the way Clarence Mitchell is not brought up as the spokesman in the first paragraph. This allows the illusion that the article is not (in its entirety) a Team McCann press release.
British media is hilarious. I had never realized this. I must thank the McCanns for bringing it to my attention.

Do you know Portugal is the poorest country in the EU? 25% of the populations lives on 305 Euros a month. This is hurting the country which is still struggling to get on its feet with all the budget issues. Hmm, are we, the taxpayers paying for this? We’rea lready taxed to death with some as high as 21%. If I knew any of my taxes were going to pay for this investigation, I will revolt! I think if it’s true and everyone knew, there would be public outrage, the likes never seen before.

Did anyone else hear Clarence on the James Whale radio show on Talksport last night. James Whale is a good presenter generally, but on the McCanns he is completely on their side, even to the extent of wanting to send a personnel message to the family. He even agreed that leaving the children in the room was like eating a meal at the bottom of their garden.
Unfortunately, anyone listening to the show without really studying the history, would have been taken in. The McCanns are being persecuted by the British media spreading lies. Well, there hare definately been some mis truths printed, but no more than from the McCanns. I think Clarence also said that they were only 25 paces away from the room while they were eating. Did anyone else hear this as I thought I might have misheard it?

I really like this Portuguese Police chief. Riebero.
He has dignity, bearing, lack of malice, maturity, honesty in other words everything that Lord….blah blah Stevens does not have.
I hope he reveals things that will make them all curl up in a ball and remain there for eternity.

See Clarence is now furiously trying to undo the damage, after seeing that yesterday’s article Kate McCann ‘Wants a Job in Child Welfare’ went down so well!
He should have said, “It’s ludicrous for the papers to suggest that Kate wants a job in child welfare. What should have been written is ‘Kate Wants A Course in Child Welfare’.”

If Clarence Mitchells job is to promote public empathy for these two
He should be sacked

So Kate “wants to help other children”!!!
(It’s a great pity she didn’t help her own!)
“It has been suggested that Mrs McCann is now best placed to help other parents and children who suffer such trauma.”
(What on earth can she advise other parents about!? How to keep a poker face, so you don’t show any emotion? How to choose and apply cosmetics that never blotch and run?? How to carefully co-ordinate your wardrobe at times of stress – even when out jogging???)
They’ll be telling us next that they’re hiring Michael Jackson as their nanny!)

Anorak,
Morning all, yesterday was a blue Monday without you.
A big gap in the day.
What happened?
October 23rd, 2007 at 7:10 am
So what if the cops have a bit of fag ash anyway. fag ash is fag ash, and is easily distinguised from anything else. The McCann’s if anything would be overjoyed at evidence being contaminated but wouldn’t say it publically.

Well ya know I gotta take my hat of again to Mr.Soothsayer,it appears to be panning out the way he said it would, his phone tap and the preist angle seems to be right on the money. The fact that other people are on here now claiming to have predicted this also says it all, immatation is the greatest form of flattery isn’t that right Mr.Bennet.In case any one is unsure of what the position is now,the Portuguese chief of police has stated quite clearly, that he has a good idea of what happend and he knows who killed Madeleine,so lets quit the charade of looking for a living Madeleine and concentrate on nailin the guilty.

Maddie case: Missing for 172 days
Image worries McCanns
The McCanns have consulted a communication agency in Lisbon and admitted to paying an amount of 50 thousand euros per month so their image was managed in the Portuguese media. CM knows that one of the first companies that were contacted was the firm of Antonio Cunha Vaz, who presently is the image manager of the leader of PSD [political party], Luis Filipe Meneses, but even after discussing the price, and after the couple admitted to paying the amount that was discussed, the company ended up refusing.
The contact was made a few days ago, at a phase when Maddie’s parents have no representative for the media in Portugal. It also coincided with the meeting between English prime minister, Gordon Brown, and Jose Socrates [PT prime minister], during which the former solicited the Portuguese government’s commitment to contain the publicity of facts of the inquiry, namely the analyses’ results. During that approach to the Cunha Vaz Associados firm, the couple’s representatives considered the value to be high - higher than what they are paying their lawyers - but they didn’t close the door. The refusal from this firm led them to consider other possibilities, by making a wider approach to the market of communication companies. Antonio Sousa Duarte, a partner at Communicare, who works with Rogerio Alves, one of the couple’s lawyers and president of the Portuguese bar, told CM that his company “was not consulted” and that the fact that he works with this lawyer is in itself “a factor that prevents any contractual relationship with the case”.
Rogerio Alves told CM yesterday that “no communication firm was hired, nor will any be hired”. The process retreated by the couple’s lawyers, who had established contacts with some other major companies within the communication and image market.

Here’s a translation for a Oct 22 article in the Portuguese 24 Horas:
http://forums.mirror.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=22935
Google translation of “24Horas” 22 -10
Half a million for Maddie
A small fortune. The Portuguese State, which is all of us, has paid about half a million euros to try to locate the small Madeleine McCann, disappeared on 3 May last an apartment of the Ocean Club, in Praia da Luz, Lagos, Algarve. Among police, judges and forensic experts have already spent the money equivalent to two “pools.”
The 24 made the accounts. At the beginning of the investigations and for nearly two weeks were involved in operations to search anything such as 200 agents, and investigators from the military and PJ’s GNR. Most of the Judicial investigators were deployed in Lisbon, and the National Directory and the Central Directorate of Combat the Banditisme. Only police spent in travel is something like 6,000 euros. This value must also be added the daily allowance that each police had a right to travel from Lisbon to the Algarve and that round about 50 thousand euros.
After a month of investigation the team has been reduced to about half hundred researchers and last month, for only half a dozen investigators from the PJ. Still, five months only the police cost to the state 200,000 euros to try to find Maddie.
But the costs are not confined to researchers of PJ’s military and the National Guard Republican who intervened in the case - the latter with teams cinotécnicas (dogs, search and rescue).
We must also account for the arrival of England by five policemen and their specialized teams of dogs to detect corpses. Between travel, stay and work spent by more than 100,000 euros since the girl was given as disappeared. All out of our pockets.
Further, the removal of the coordinator Gonçalo Amaral, the subsequent appointment of Paul Rebelo to lead the investigation and the strengthening of the team of inspectors of PJ was still increase the monthly costs by about 30 thousand euros.
Then there is still the staff of the Public Prosecutor of Portimão that they must treat the process, a prosecutor, a district attorney and a judge to work almost exclusively for Maddie. None of these three judges earn less than 3,000 euros per month. Putting even the Attorney-General of the Republic, which tracks the investigations hand in hand, we are talking about more than 50 thousand euros already spent in the process in just five months.
And do not think that spending is staying here. There is also the cost of the National Institute of Legal Medicine for the steps that have been requested.
Among the various examinations of DNA made under medico-legal expertise in the field of genetics and biology, which include samples of blood and saliva, samples of hair, teeth, bones or other tissues, and compared with samples from other family members to Gerry was to determine whether or not the true father of Madeleine, spent by more than 50,000 euros.
And still reach the account of the laboratory tests ordered for Birmingham, which will not be less than 200,000 euros.
The case Maddie is costing real wealth for us all. In summary, we currently pay, per day, more than five thousand euros to meet Maddie.
