Very early on I do remember a report of someone being seen taking a black rubbish bag to a skip outside of a supermarket in the holiday complex - I never heard or read anymore about this and I cant find the follow up or the initial report - Does anyone remember this - it was not more than a week after May3

re: Cornwall (or Cornwell ?) and forensics -
I’ve read that Cornwall made a few comments such as “watch Kate — she is suspicious”, and, following on a popular theme, ‘ “they’ve taken her” yada yada.
These thoughts really added some forensical perspective to the discussion.
The whole “They’ve taken her” excitement is “ludicrous”. If one of my own daughters was missing, I would be so hysterical I would be likely to say anything. How “They’ve taken her” indicates something criminal, I can’t imagigine.

I did come across an interesting birdwatching blog which recommended one rubbish tip as a good place for spotting certain birds, but it was miles from PDL!

I’ve looked on google maps without success for signs of a rubbish tip in Praia da Luz or nearby.
Can someone please post the address?
As someone who occasionally takes household rubbish to the local tip (stuff that is too big to go in the dustbin, such as furniture and old appliances), I doubt anyone would go to these smelly places whilst on holiday, unless they really had to, especially in a warm climate, and especially with so many rubbish bins available in town.
My local tip is just a collection and sorting depot before rubbish is carted off to a landfill site. The public would not normally visit these places.

My primary school teacher taught My Husband and ME the difference between a subject and an object when we were 5 years old. But of course we were educated privately.

I’m in agreement with you, too. I need to clarify that the rubbish is picked up in front of the houses and businesses…left either at the curb or against the building. I don’t recall ever seeing a dumpster or central collection point. This is a clean country. Every morning the streets and sidewalks are swept and cleaned by women with aprons, brooms and big push-cart barrel. Algarve is the most posh, gag, part of Portugal. I can’t imagine those snobs putting up with having to deal with their own waste.

Edna, I am in agreement with you. I feel the McCann’s had no real business going to the refuse dump, and I am of the firm belief that they would regard themselves “above” matters concerning rubbish. They are, in my opinion the type who would just leave it by the side of the official collection point. I have five Years experience in the waste industry.. and have used this in my assessment of the situation. Actually I am repeating myself as I said this three times already… However, I feel this point is worthy of reinforcing for the benefit of us all in internet land.

i’m waiting for an answer from a friend who lives in Algarve to see if trash is picked up every night as it is in my city. Every night but Saturday around 10 pm the truck arrives. If that’s the case in Algarve, and I would tend to think this is a country-wide thing, there is no reason to go to the dump.

Sorry to be totally off subject but after reading every single post here tonight I have to have the final say on Grammar. I have studied English Language in the UK to a high degree and have to say that as I stated earlier on this thread, Gerry McCann was CORRECT in stating the phrase “Kate and I” This is correct queens English. I noticed another poster also stated this to verify this point later in the day. I am quite amazed
(and slightly concerned) as to how many people have rambled on quite incorrectly about this matter.

Sorry to go off the beaten track. But if I can ask Pat Brown a couple of questions that are off topic that would be cool. My daughter, 24, is at University doing her masters in forensics. She is doing her paper on blood splatter patterns. Thing is after following her dream, one she had from a very young age, she has now come disillusioned with her job prospects after graduating. I was wondering if you had any idea of the job opportunities in this field in Europe?
I know how clever she is. If you have any info I would appreciate it although in saying that I’m more than happy for my daughter to become a teacher but I have a nagging feeling she just needs some encouragement that openings in the forensic field do occur.
She is thinking of becoming a science teacher instead to ensure she has a career.
She was amazingly focused on forensics and as I’m her father

I don’t think what parents wear to interviews about their missing child is important in and of itself. What would be important is if suddenly their style changed. For example, if Kate McCann has always been very properly dressed and looks put together and, then, after reading how odd it is for a parent of a missing child to even be thinking clearly enough to pay attention to fashion and grooming, changes to looking unkempt, then this is a red flag. One would have to wonder if she just is falling apart suddenly or if she has been told or come to believe that her attention to wardrobe and hair and such makes her look guilty of a crime.
When profiling and investigating it is very important to learn the history of suspects to determine what their behavior might mean. For example, when I get upset, I talk a lot, go into action overdrive, and eat too much (I have never experienced being so emotionally upset that I can’t eat (darn)). So, if my daughter was abducted, I can guarantee you I would work on her case day and night and eat like a pig. So, if, after my daughter vanished, I rarely contacted the police and told folks I would just have to let the police due there job, and I was getting thin from not eating, red flags should go up that something is possibly fishy.
So what a profiler or cop should be doing in the McCann case is finding out past behaviors. If, for example, Kate McCann cried over a pet or couldn’t sleep well for months after a close relative died, or didn’t bother brushing her hair after her house burned down, then her behaviors after Maddie’s disappearance would be suspect. Likewise, if Gerry gave up his jogging for a month after he got bad news or he suddenly has become amused with every action of the twins when previously they bored him, then more red flags. I remember a case where the husband of a murdered woman suddenly became a charming neighbor after the crime. Until that time, he was nasty to everyone on the block. What caused the change? Hmm…
The history of the McCanns and any other suspect or witness is most important. If a witness is prone to exaggeration, then his testimony may not be worth much. If a suspect confesses to the crime - “I killed Maddie” - it is important to see if he has confessed to ten other crime over the last decade.
Hopefully, the police will be thorough in gathering this history. The McCanns should be more than thankful if they are.

Now their are saying:

This is ridiculous. I just posted the following comment, but i think it may never see the day light in their website like many other i sent before to other articles.
“I’m portuguese and never heard about somebody facing an investigation for an accident like this one in Portugal.
They will never face any investigation. It was an accident, thats all! The police will be only doing a report of the occurrences since somebody died in a public place. They were victims of their own mistake, ignoring the signs! What will they face?? Charges because somebody died of an accident? or the drown will be charged after being dead??
EVERYBODY know that after September 30, the beaches in Portugal are not under surveilance. The tourists can see that information all over the country in different places even far from the sea.
And after all, everybody knows the dangers of the sea. I was born far from the sea and since very young i was educated about the dangers in the whater, rivers, sea…
If the British don’t educate their children, then don’t blame the lack of signs.
But once more… blame the portuguese!!”
