Global Warming: Bournemouth Turns The Lights Off
TO Bournemouth with the Telegraph: “A town’s Olympic-style flame is to be replaced by a lightbulb because of the enormous gas bills and the carbon emissions it gives off.
“The 15ft high Eternal Flame was a gift to Bournemouth, Dorset, from its local churches to mark the Millennium.
“Burning continuously, it provided a focus for the town square - at a cost of £8,000 a year. Church officials also realised its emissions were harming the environment.”
Wonder what will happen to the Olympic flame in 2012? Perhaps a large crayon drawing of a flame or a picture of the Chinese nuclear glow…?

Why replace it with anything. Ultimately all these things which are supposed to “Symbolise’ other things are a total nonsense. Why did the Churches feel it was necessary to “mark the Millennium” instead of devoting any spare cash to good causes.
Are people supposed to walk past and suddenly remember that we are in the 21st century, 3rd millennium, or whatever. Only Christians believe that anyway. Hindus are in their 5th Millennium, Buddhists in the 8th, and Moslems are still stuck in their year 1428.
Tear it down, and do something useful.
