The Sun is speaking of Shannon Matthews.
The absence of any clues is not for the want of looking. In contrast to the bungling by Portuguese police in the early days of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, the hunt for Shannon by West Yorkshire police has been textbook.
Even if the child has not been found, neither in Yorkshire, nor in Portugal.
CNN: “’Underworld’ tip leads to new Maddie hunt”
The search at the Barragem do Arade reservoir, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Praia da Luz, is the initiative of Portuguese lawyer Marcos Aragao Correia, who told CNN he has never spoken to the McCanns but has sent them two letters and without receiving a reply.
Correia said they have found four strings, each with different lengths, and a sock. He said the items have been turned over to the McCanns’ detectives.
A missing sock has been found. Such is the news.

Now it’s Fiona MacKeown’s turn. On the McCann scale of public opprobrium she ought to come off worse – and it may yet prove that she does, because this story is still young.

We’ve had two shocking examples of this recently: 15-year-old Scarlett Keeling, who was raped and murdered on a beach in Goa, and Shannon Matthews, the nine-year-old who has been missing for more than three weeks in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
In both cases, initial sympathy for their grieving mothers turned to blame, just as it did after Madeleine McCann disappeared. Their mothers stand accused of being too pleasure-seeking (in Scarlett’s case) or feckless (in Shannon’s) to keep their children safe. I won’t join in.

Shannon’s disappearance has brought inevitable comparisons with that of Madeleine McCann. So far, national newspapers have published 168 stories about Shannon’s disappearance, including seven in The Independent. In the first 21 days after Madeleine’s disappearance from a resort in Portugal, some 539 articles were produced, of which 22 were published by this newspaper.
In the same period, the reward fund for Madeleine’s safe return stood at £2.6m. Contributors included Sir Richard Branson, J K Rowling and Wayne Rooney…
Mrs Bushby perhaps spoke for many when she insisted that whether it is Shannon Matthews or Madeleine McCann who has gone missing, no difference should be drawn. She said: “We’re not giving up. No way. Two children have gone missing, that’s the point. Everyone feels the same when that happens: rich, pauper, whatever. It’s the kid we’re looking for isn’t it? Not the mothers.”

The fact is her parents left her alone. The possibility she is dead is high. So what do you want? To have her parents punished forever for their neglect,or are you actually really concerned with finding out the FACTS in this ongoing mystery, and finding out the truth about who actually abducted/killed her? Until you verify this fact - all you are doing is unfounded speculation. And another thing - do you only want to interact with people who hold your narrow opinion or are you open to diverse opinions?

I don’t think it’s implausible that she’s dead. I also don’t think her parents should have left three young children on their own in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country. However, Madeliene did go missing - fact. We’re going over old ground about who’s fault it was - the parent’s were irresponsible- fact. but I think criticism should be kept for the investigation and the fact that nearly eleven months down the line we’re nowhere nearer finding out what happened to her.

“Innocent Until Proven Guilty” Are these just words that I was brought up with or do they have any value? “until proven guilty” means in a court of law - NOT in newspapers or on forums. If the words have value, everyone, including the press, should refrain from analytical and/or critical comment. At this moment in time, the McCann as parents have the right to be presumed innocent. That right MUST continue until, and unless, a jury should decide otherwise.Because they have been accused, the McCanns’ every action has been, and still is, scrutinised and interpreted as a sign of guilt. If they look happy, it is because they are callous; if they look anguished, it is because they are guilty.
it’s so easy to sit in front of your p.c and post things like Mc killers,Mc Scum, but in my opinion such small minded people are just cowards.

The vast majority here are rather more concerned with the admitted neglect issues, which is less than innocent, presumed or otherwise.

Ian 351- not sure if you have read earlier posts but one thing that was brought up was about the Mcs being charged with neglect and when. I thought that no charges would be brought until the PJ know to what extent of suffering their neglect caused Madeleine and therefore what sentence ie neglect causing death etc. The other thing I said was that if the Mcs are to be charged with neglect,as they should be, then what about the rest of the group? The Paynes may get off with a lesser charge due to the fact they reportedly used a monitor.
