Shannon Matthews: Stepdad Craig Meehan Arrested
SHANNON Watch: Anorak’s look at the case of Shannon Matthews in the media
YORKSHIRE EVENING POST: “Today’s development came on the day that Karen Matthews, 32, was due to have a second meeting with her daughter Shannon - who is still being looked after by a foster family.
“The YEP has been informed that Social Services bosses have spent the last few days arranging for the visit to take place - at an undisclosed location.
“However, that reunion has now been put on hold in light of the arrest of Karen’s partner. The YEP has also learned that detectives probing Shannon’s 24 day disappearance are still interviewing the youngster. They are anxious to establish exactly what happened to her during the time she was missing. However, detectives are able to interview her for only short periods at a time because of her tender age, and the delicate nature of the questioning.”
DAILY MAIL: “Police arrest Shannon Matthews’ stepfather on child porn charges”
Police investigating the disappearance of Shannon Matthews have arrested her stepfather Craig Meehan on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children.
The 22-year-old, who lives with Shannon’s mother Karen, was arrested this morning and is currently being questioned.
West Yorkshire Police said the man, who they did not name, was detained after officers examined a number of computers during the search of the nine-year-old.
THE TIMES: A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “During enquiries by the Shannon Matthews investigation team, the contents of a number of computers has been examined. As a result of this work, police have today arrested a 22 year old man from the Dewsbury Moor area, on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children. He is currently being questioned at a West Yorkshire Police Station.”
BATLEY NEWS: “Shannon police arrest man”

I expect he was just doing some innocent Townsend background research? IMO

Why do they keep saying he is her Stepfather ?
Unless they are married he is not. He is simply her mother’s current boyfriend.

i am just the bringer of the bad news - and the news is bad, indeed.
broken families are more dangerous, on average, than intact families.
i MAY be a rubbish father but that doesn’t change the message.

You remind me of another poster on another board. He would regularly slay single mum’s and tell us how perfect he was as a dad and ex husband.
One day he posted that his 2 little boys (under 5 yrs old) wanted their tea. This is Mr perfect dad who was posting on a public messageboard during a contact visit with his little boys - perfect dad? me thinks not. Lets hope his ex never found out he was spending his contact time posting on messageboards. I wonder how much ‘quality’ time he spent with his kids when still married if this is what he did on contact visits?

He probably has several children to different partners and pays nothing to any of them!

You cannot compare all single parents to the case you are referring to. That shows the mentality of you. There are many single parents with professional jobs and well looked after children who want for nothing. I have several in my school.

julie - I don’t know Shannon’s mother. I have a beef with people who think they are doing right and doing harm.

“How dare you make remarks and judgements like that!”
———————————-
I ‘dare’ because ’tis true. Single motherhood is more dangerous for children than intact families - increase in poverty, drug abuse, life expectancy, mental illness, crime… not always (I pray!) but enough to make it the curse of modern life.
Shannon was exposed to danger by her own mother, Karen. Her mother may have thought she was doing right (she probably thought of Shannon’s dad as a monster!) but she made Shannon feel unsafe in her own home.

“My child with a single parent is the happiest, most well-cared for child that you could come across … and all because I took the step to make him a child of a single parent, without an abusive monster of a father! ”
——————————
Shannon’s mom had at least six men in her life since she gave birth to her first child and I bet she thought they were all ‘abusive monsters’ and that Shannon was safer because Karen was on her own.
And I can imagine the home of “the happiest, most well-cared for child that you could come across”! “Yes Mummy, I love you. Daddy is a monster!”
———————————–
You have a personal beef with Karen Matthews, and it’s clouding your pathetic judgement. - wouldn’t at all surprise me if you’re the father of one of her children!

Utter nonsense!!
I work with children and often sit in on social work meetings. I know of many happy, healthy and confident children brought up by one parent. Likewise I have witnessed the effect on children brought up in a hostile environment witnessing arguments and violence when parents don’t get on. How dare you make remarks and judgements like that!

.. the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the square of the other two sides….
Not a clue what it means but had to learn it many many many years ago.
Never did get to grips with any maths.
I’d forgotten about you and that agency…. good luck with it. They’re intransigent bastards…. hasn’t it been dismantled yet?

So what you are promoting is a child being raised by 2 parents regardless of whether the child is being abused by one parent, sees one parent being regularly abused by the other parent, in the process being taught that violence, especially between couples is normal? Is this your idea of how a child should be raised as opposed to being the child of a single parent?
What of the children who have lost one parent through death? Does the widow/widower then go out and find another partner as soon as possible so the child isn’t raised by a single parent?

I just wanted to reiterate (say again) that single parenthood is not good for children and it should not be promoted.
——————————————
Not even going down that road with you and your pathetic beliefs again! My child with a single parent is the happiest, most well-cared for child that you could come across … and all because I took the step to make him a child of a single parent, without an abusive monster of a father! So do me and all the other single mothers that post here a favour and go preach your beliefs to some idiot who will listen.

like pythagoras.
you would need to use it on every right angled triangle between 0 and infinity to prove it.
my theory is that this can’t be done.
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:52 pm
the only way you can prove a theorem is by trying every possible combination and ensuring that it works.
as this is impossible, i rest my case.
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Marie, I’m actually a bit disappointed that I was so accurate in my summing up of the situation, because I would have wished it to be otherwise. Unfortunately sometimes it’s like opening a book that you’ve read before, you know exactly how it ends
…. (I’ve read the book too many times to realise that the ending cannot magically change into a fairytale!)
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:51 pm

exactly my point.
all facts are true until it’s proved they’re not.
just something people believe to be true at the time.
and i don’t think ANY theory has ever been proved anyway.

It never was a fact, it was a belief, presented as fact.
Even in sciences, scientists speak of theories, when they explain facts.
I really have to go, a hungry man gets grumpy (opinion based on experience and presented as fact).
Bye bye for now.

then how come it used to be a fact that the world was flat?
April 2nd, 2008 at 6:39 pm

“a ‘fact’ is only something that people believe to be true”
What you are describing isn’t a fact, it is a belief.
A fact is neither true nor untrue. But someone can describe as fact something which isn’t. Tat person then is untrue.
Facts don’t have to be believed into. (I don’t have to believe that you are a poster, posting now under the name of Firestar). If a fact isn’t true, it is not a fact.
It is in the interpretation of the facts that we bring something of our beliefs and opinions.
Sorry : my husband says he wants to eat.
Bye bye for now.
