Do The Sums: More Countdown Auditions, With The Guardian
AUDITIONS for the person to replace Carol Vorderman as the nation’s favourite TV brain box move on to day 3: The Guardian:
HEIDI BLAKE (Guardian)
So, farewell then, Carol Vorderman. Following 26 years of co-hosting Channel 4’s flagship gameshow, the woman recently dubbed “Mrs Countdown” is set to take her final bow after reportedly being given 48 hours to accept a 90% cut to her £1.2m pay packet or resign
ZOE WILLIAMS (Guardian)
But to return to that 90% - as any true maths fan would - that was a cut from 800 grand, so it would have left her with £80k.
LEIGH HOLMWOOD (Guardian)
Previous reports put her salary between £900,000 and £1m a year.

Even with a 90% pay cut 80k pounds for 40 days work a year! Would that I could casually leave that kind of money on the table. I suppose its all relative but I think she needs to be very careful. Countdown was the media anchor that kept her in the public eye allowing her to do other lucrative things such as promoting loan sharks. Without this anchor job she may find out as other celebrities have in the past that public memory is notoriously short. Contrary to the hype she is not the only person in the world good at numbers. Imagine if they find say a cute teenager good at maths to replace her. She’ll be a dim memory within months. Maybe she’s now rich enough not to care. Actually I don’t care either, writing this relieves the boredom of watching American cable tv. But for BBC America I think I would go insane.

Not doing very well, are they.
The thought of all that money must be distracting them…
