P-AAAAARRRRRR: Even Pirates Have A Spokesman
CLARENCE Mitchell should have no problem getting work - even pirates have a spokesman:
Somali pirates who hijacked a Ukrainian freighter carrying supposed Kenyan military weapons have defiantly demanded $US20 million ($24 million) in ransom despite being surrounded by three foreign warships.
The spokesman for the pirates, contacted by AFP via satellite telephone, confirmed that they were surrounded by three foreign war vessels off Somalia’s central coast and said the ship’s crew was “safe and not harmed.”

Well, last night I suggested that I had some difficulty in distinguishing between the ethics of the 377 people in London who took down 116,000 of their colleagues in 130 separate countries, and the Somalian pirates.
The people from AIG who achieved this are unlikely to be hung in chains at Canary Wharf, though it would probably make their colleagues feel better…

Oh ‘aar Mr Mate.. issue cheese to all hands… cast giblets to the wind… we be butting ‘ard into the teeth of a Nor’east spanker I tell ‘ee!

Does the term “blown right out of the water” cause any alarms?
Not those associated with spending too long in a very hot bath.

I get the picture; these poor honest pacifist eco-warriors will be the victims of a show trial and will be executed in full view of the heartless capitalists who are bent on destroying not only the pristine waters of the Somalian coastline but also dispatching tanks to be used for the suppression of the last flickering flames of hope in a war torn continent.
I’m on Chapter 2 of PR For Dummies; how am I doing?

Tell me it aint so. I further refer ‘ee to this
In the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, “maritime piracy” consists of:
(a) any illegal acts of violence or detention, or any act of depredation, committed for private ends by the crew or the passengers of a private ship or a private aircraft, and directed:
(i) on the high seas, against another ship or aircraft, or against persons or property on board such ship or aircraft;
(ii) against a ship, aircraft, persons or property in a place outside the jurisdiction of any State;
(b) any act of voluntary participation in the operation of a ship or of an aircraft with knowledge of facts making it a pirate ship or aircraft;
(c) any act of inciting or of intentionally facilitating an act described in subparagraph (a) or (b)
(Bain’t wikipedia wonderful)
‘Tis international law, not to be interfered with by scurvy politicos and the swabs will swing fer it. They’ll be dangling from the yardarm or chained to Canary wharf at low tide before yer vittals have gone cold and yer grogs bin supped.

No, no, Yampster; this is civil disobedience.
These people are pacifists who are trying to prevent weapons reaching a war torn continent, and I know that’s right because it says so on the press release…

I refer ee t’ this
The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) defines piracy as:
the act of boarding any vessel with an intent to commit theft or any other crime, and with an intent or capacity to use force in furtherance of that act.
It be piracy, I tell ‘ee and they’ll feel the lash (salt rubbed in obligato) afore sundown
September 29th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Yep.
You can see why Obama wants to keep this under wraps; these community organisers may not play well…
September 29th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
ah yes - one man’s pirate is another man’s freedom fighter…..
September 29th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Won’t happen.
‘”We are not pirates, we are just protecting our natural marine resources. Some countries want to make our waters a dumping site for the industry of the West. We are supported by the local community.”
