Tarnishing The Paul Newman Idol
PAUL Newman is dead, and the Mirror’s Sue Carroll salutes the “family man”.
Newman had six children, three from an early marriage that ended in divorce and three with actress Joanne Woodward, whom he married in 1958.
A two family man.
Over in the Telegraph, Tim Walker says that actress Greta Scacchi tells him she once saw Newman in a “compromsing situation”. With his wife> Walker does not say.
First the idol dies. Then the idol gets torn down…

Paul Newman is my favourite actor. It is wrong to say he was just an actor. He also started the hole in the wall gang for children with cancer. Greta scaachi won an emmy, and was nominated for a golden globe, so she must have some talent. I was wondering though if any women here felt that steak comment a bit sexist.

Poor Greta. She sounds bored and bitter. But then, I guess I’d be bitter too if I’d had a man as HOT as Vincent D’Onofrio, let him get away, and then married my first cousin. Sounds like to me she wanted to spread her legs for Mr. Newman and the classy, talented guy didn’t take the bait. Hee.

Not to worry; I think people got your drift.
She really is not a warm and lovable person, is she?

And maybe if I’d typed “sue her” instead of “wue her” my comment might have made sense.

What a shame that some “has-been” actress (and come to think of it, she’s not even a “has-been” as that would require her to have “been” something more than the naked body she was in many films) has to bad mouth such a wonderful man as Paul Newman. His family is mourning his loss in their lives and this woman has nothing better to do than through out inuendo and gossip? Scacchi is a laughing stock to most that know of her and her continual whining over the break-up of her relationship with Vincent D’Onofrio over 17 years ago. I suggest she build a good sturdy bridge and get over it!

I’d like to offer my condolences to Paul Newman’s family. He will be greatly missed.
I was very saddened to hear of his death, but even more saddened to hear that Greta Scacchi had decided to use the sad event to try and further her own ends. But I wasn’t in the least bit surprised. She appears to me to have developed a real talent for disrespecting other members of her profession in order to shore up her so-called career, which in my opinion has been dogged by mediocrity and fundamental lack of talent right from the start.
She is well-known (and much disliked by this fan) for continually venting her spleen about the break up of her relationship with Vincent D’Onofrio - who has, to his everlasting credit, steadfastly refused to rise to her continual baiting. It was seventeen years ago. I would like to humbly suggest that the time has now come for her to move on.
I don’t think anyone takes Scacchi seriously enough nowadays for any lasting harm to be done to Newman’s reputation, but I am still aggrieved by her basic lack of decency, dignity and good manners.

Neither I nor anyone I’ve asked, know who this person is. What we do know is, Paul Newman has never had any breath of scandal until now. Well he’s dead and cannot protest this accusation, not that he would even do that, given his private life style.
We also know that he gave us many years of enjoyment with his acting and he certainly displayed generosity far and above of anyone else in show business, that I’ve heard of. Legions of children will benefit from that.
Then there’s his long lasting love affair with his equally talented and beautiful wife.
We will miss him and offer our condolences to his family and fans.

I felt I had to comment as Diane thinks I found this before her! I concur with everyone’s views, and if Greta Scacchi doesn’t stop badmouthing people, someone will probably wue her quite soon, and GOOD LUCK TO THEM!

Paul Newman was the only bloke who when asked by Michael Parkinson ( I think ) , during an interview
M.P. ” Do you ever get tempted by some of the beautiful starlets you work with ?”
Paul Newman :- ” Why have a hamburger when you’ve got steak at home….” Lovely man, lovely wife…..lovely family. Miss him and all of his and his wife’s ideas. Shelley.

Ms Schacchi seems to be known only for being nasty about other people; a very odd sort of celebrity…

Paul Newman was a rare Man, never a breath of scandal, devoted Family man,
donated over $200,000.000 to Charities through his Company and was a fine
Actor…………..shame on Ms. Scacchi (never heard of her !).

Who in the hell is Greta Scacchi????
September 30th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
I’m getting a little tired of Ms. Scacchi trying to enhance her flagging career by bashing others, it’s bad enough that every interview she gives she slams her ex Vincent D’onofrio ( the father of her daughter) but now after all these years she feels the need to slam Paul Newman after he is dead and can’t defend himself. she should be ashamed of herself, if she needs the publicity so bad maybe she can join Dancing with the stars they will take any old hasbeen.

Greta Scacchi is a pathetic attention-seeker, who can only manage to get on Google alerts by bad mouthing Vincent D’Onofrio, and now Paul Newman. Just my opinion of course!

if someone like Paul Newman isn’t safe, then the rest of us are going to get kicked to hell, as sure as eggs is eggs…..

That the trouble with these kick-and-tell stories, they always leave out the important bits.
