A New ContactPoint For Paedos and Vigilantes

PEADO! It’s the tabloids’ rallying call. Gather round. Form a mob. Bay and bang on the van. Bring the kids.

News is that convicted paedophile Andrew Cunningham has been stabbed to death by a mob who also tried to “hack off his genitals”.

Says a police source in the Sun, beneath the front-page screamer “MOB KILL PAEDO”: “His death was ferocious.” Adding: “He was loathed by a large number of people so we have a lot of potential suspects.”

Cunningham is reported to have served four months prison time for raping a schoolgirl, aged under 13 at the time. Four months for the rape of a minor. Can this be right?

The Sun has more. It says he was arrested in 2003, but for what readers are not told, only that “charges were not pressed”.

“Soon afterwards vigilantes set fire to his former home in a Wandsworth street after discovering he was brazenly grooming kids.”

Again no evidence is offered. But the Sun cannot hear for the din of blood pumping in its ears:

“He fled and set up in the caravan. But drinkers accused him of fondling a barmaid’s two-year-old daughter.”

Mention of Cunningham’s vile crime (he was 52 when he died) and the accusations suggest that the Sun is constructing a defence dossier for the man’s killers.

This is dangerous reporting.

Next month, the Government will switch on ContactPoint , a computer programme that holds information on 11million children in England and Wales.
